I was struck the other day by how easy it would be for a Republican to take the Geico Insurance commercials with the Little Money Guy and use it to their own purposes. I mean, let's face it, the Republican Party is becoming more and more an institution that is built upon the sole doctrine that ALL Taxes are bad and ALL Tax Cuts are good. The cultural warfare issues are taking a back seat now to their constant harping about the evils of taking even one thin dime out of anyone's pocket.
So, of course, the Geico commercials would seem to be a natural outlet for that mindless greed that the RNC is showing these days. "That's the money you could have saved if you voted Republican." The same short sighted behavior that got us into the Economic and Energy mess that we're currently in, thanks to 8 years of Bush putting Wall Street Greed ahead of Main Street Need.
"Everything isn't always about money," is the clearest way I could think to say to people that Greed is not the answer to all of our problems. Good schools are important. A clean environment is important. Giving people access to good affordable Health Care ins important, as well as are a whole host of other things which we as a nation can never achieve as long as we propagate the notion that Money is the be all and end all of our existence. And Republican's need to know that their phrase, "You're either with us or you're against us," (remember that!) works both ways. They need to get off the "NO" wagon and start trying to actually help our President, rather than by making things worse by tearing down everything he tries to do to dig us out of the mess that THEY got us into.
And no Little Geico Money Men were harmed during the creation of this video.
