The level of meta on DKos lately is as bad or worse than it was just after the election. When it came to the point I had to leave until Inauguration-- Not that you should care, but it's notable as a benchmark.
The cause of the meta, this time, is extensive over use of hyperbolic language and hypersensitivity. And something needs to be done, like not look for any excuse to get offended and not try to contextualize everything in the most extreme examples you can imagine.
RE: The Union/GM-Chrysler/Michigan thing. This is the current example of what I'm talking about.
Each side is talking about something different, but are arguing with each other as though they were debating the same thing. The people who agree with Obama see it as responsible handling of the situation and how wall street should've been dealt with.
The union people see it as an example of where the line for 'enough' aid is drawn: just before it reaches the middle class.
And people from the Rust Belt(me included since I live in Michigan), were dragged into this, as a whole, because quite a few people were using, idiotic, hyperbolic language.
I agree with all sides in this "debate". Which shows that there is no debate. That the people arguing are arguing language, not facts.
...What I think should happen is that any aid to GM and Chrysler should be in the form of the Government taking over(whole or part of) the UAW's pension and healthcare contracts. But that's not what I'm writing about.
The other thing is that people seem to be looking for any reason to become offended. Especially Obama white knights and... In asking to be treated like an equal, you're asking to be treated equally; is all I'll say...
What I'm trying to say is think about what you say before you say it. And think about what someone is actually trying to say before you get offended.
Do you really need to say(yes this is hyperbolic): 'Well. You should've thought about that before you were born into such a shitty job market!' And do you really need to write a 10 paragraph diatribe about how 'have you thought about moving?' insults your heritage, race, sex and country/state/city?
"Debating", or should I say, 'arguing' inanities does nothing but create noise and drive people away. Just look at the MSM... :)
