Why is it that many of the countries, the ones that care about their society, have health care? It was a huge blow to me this morning reading an article on MSNBC's website that 1 out of 5 Medicare patients will return to the hospital, within a month after being discharged, with heart problems and pneumonia being the largest portion of diagnosis for this problem. My son is 7 years old, he had pneumonia and the Croup, I must say that this is a very serious issue and one that must change if we are to be a civil society that looks after its constituency, its part of being a member of a group, a society, in a civilized world.
I don't know what the hell is the problem with Medicare and Medicaid but I know that they are not working, doctors are not being paid, half privatized and half government run is not the solution to our problems within the health care system. I was talking with my doctor the other day, we got onto the subject of Medicare and Medicaid, he slapped down a large stack of paperwork and said, this is Medicare patients that I have complaints for regarding Medicare. My doctor being from Russia and remembering standing in lines with his mother for a loaf of bread and a roll of toilet paper mentioned that the U.S. Either needs to privatize or be government run heath care but being both is fucking up patients and killing them in some cases. Medications are a huge problem, this I know from my own experience. Pays, Co-pays and then the dreaded gaps that crush a persons ability to afford medications at all. Do you know what happens when a person whose taking Effexor or another anti-depressant does when they are forced to stop their meds immediately? If you answered possible death then you are not too far off. This has got to stop, health care needs to be government run and this privatizing everything needs to be shut down, quelled, chewed up and spit out to never return again. Rethugs and their, no, no, no, I'm so sick of the bullshit that is going on and has been for so many years. All I think about when I hear stories of Medicare is old Ron waxing and waining on the stereo, talking about politicians making medical decisions. Oh my god, give me a fucking break!!!
I spent 6 weeks in the hospital, was on Medicare and Medicaid. I was taking a slew of medications and ended up getting jammed with the gap of my prescription carrier. Now my 50 dollar a month medications shot up to over 2500 dollars a month. I shit you not and let me tell you that the third day after not having my meds, driving up and down the highway, looking at every bridge I crossed thinking if that would be the one that I jumped off until I finally downed a bottle of life threatening medications, passed out on the side of the road and that was it. Fortunately, my mother, realizing the situation and how dire it was, noticed I was not around, called the police and they found me, with enough time that the ambulance was able to reboot my ticker and get me the care I needed, for the time being. Yes, it seems that Medicare patients that are depressed and commit suicide are ready to go home after 3 days in the hospital, my mother found out and she called Dartmouth and made it quite clear that there was no way I was able or ready to come home. This event happened every single week for six weeks, until I finally had enough and they gladly pushed me right out the fucking door onto the street.
Now, I have friends with even worst situations, hard stories to fathom, sickening, heartless and by all standings unacceptable in my eyes. When is this country going to wake up, understand that health is not a privilege, its a right? All people should be able to live without worry of getting ill to the point where they will end up broke due to some minor or major illness. There is a major problem and it is not getting any better. I have just fallen into my gap again and I don't have Medicaid to help me this time, who knows, maybe I will get my med's and maybe I wont. The truth is, I am tired of having to worry about it. I am tired people...I am tired of worrying about medications, tired of fighting with Medicare about stupid shit. I am tired of having my psych tell me to call his machine and vent the Medicare frustrations because he cant stomach hearing it anymore, its too painful for him.
The time is now, health care needs to be brought to the table and a bill must be passed immediately. The conservative agenda has blocked this notion long enough. Government must take a stand, the Dems need to make this deal happen and it needs to be real, the stakes are high, peoples lives are the opportunity cost of failed legislation. Lets get this fucking thing done and help out all those that are being pushed out the door to wander the streets, cold, alone and on the way to stepping out over that bridge, with no return.
