All of us are agenist bullying, and bullying in the workplace is a concern deserving legislation, but the "activist" groups promoting bills like A1551 in the New Jersey legislature, are not the answer. Under the guise of pro-worker activism, healthyworkplacebill.org is mobilizing a highly organized effort to get anti-bullying laws passed in 8 states in 2009: IL, NY, MA, NJ, OK, VT, CT, UT, OR, WA, MT. But there is a trick: these bills limit damages to $25,000. So all a pro-employer labor lawyer has to do is get a case tried as a bullying case and voila, the employer only pays max $25,000 in damages and the case goes away. Linda Greenstein is the state assemblywoman tricked by this "movement" into introducing the bill. If you live in one of these states, please start opposing this legislation and advocating for meaningful damages. If you live in one of these states, watch the healthyworkplacebill.org site because suddenly your state might pass this before you even know what happened.
