You can't find it on their front page, but the audio is now available on line of NPR's absolutely chilling interview with a San Antonio, Texas gun dealer on the nationwide shortage of ammunition -- a shortage he attributes directly to what he called the widespread fear the Obama administration is going to take away everyone's guns.

Remarkably, the story failed to mention the Pittsburgh cop shootings, and interviewer Michelle Norris even suggested that the run on ammunition might prompt gun control advocates to press for stricter limits on gun ownership.
Just a bit more over the flip.
The gun shop owner, Johnny Dury of Dury Gun Shop, claims the run on guns and ammo began on Nov. 5 and has continued through to the present. When asked about his current sales, he referred to a good "post-Obama" day, with April sales about fifteen percent higher than they were a year ago. Dury also repeated most of the rightwing talking points regarding the administration's intentions, including the establishment of socialism. He even hinted at government agents swooping down on unsuspecting grandmas in order to seize granny's lifetime supply of AK-47 ammo!
Starting at about 3:15 of the audio clip, Dury goes off on his rant that "people are buying it [ammunition] to protect themselves." What follows is my transcript of his rant:
They're so scared of the socialist type of 'let's take over the banks, let's talk about take over the oil companies, let's give all of this money to people who are without jobs, let's, let's reward all these people who are not working hard," and they said well if the government is going thataway what are they going to try to take away from us now. And that you know what the big concern is, they're worried about not being able to get any ammo and not being able to protect themselves. They feel like if the criminals know you can't get guns then it's just going to make it easier target to commit crimes.
And of course the journalist didn't call him on any of it...
