Happy Friday! Happy Weekend! Peaceful Good Friday and Blessed Passover Shabbat to those who celebrate.
I am tickled to host the Pootie Diary du Jour! Although I am not as prepared as I wish, I hope you enjoy this diary, and the relaxation and humor therein.
Please share your own critter photos and tell us about the critters you have met and loved.
And please play nice in this sandbox. If you are not a fan of pooties, please comment in the nearest Open Thread.
Today is one of two days in the Christian calendar on which hot cross buns are eaten.
Darwin's Delight
We were blessed to take a trip to Australia in December 07. Here are a few of the wonderfully evolved marsupials and monotremes.
We were in a small town in the Grampian Mountains in western Victoria for a holiday. The local kangaroo mob settled in on this lot in the late afternoon. My husband skillfully led our two children in the opposite direction so I could get these exceptionally close shots. (close for me, anyway).
Here is the kangaroo's smaller cousin, the wallaby. This wallaby was exceptionally patient - he let both kids pet him while he waited for the gate to open. There is a gate just to the right of the fence and that wallaby was determined to get through it!
This was taken at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia.
I have a talent for taking animal butt pictures. Here I capture not only the emu, but my son, and their mutual butts. If I were to ever gather all my photos together, I am sure I could have a butt album.
Koala butt. Not the usual view.
This is a darling egg-laying mammal, the echidna. Baby echidnas are called puggles! But look at those claws! They eat worms and bugs and stuff. Here is a better picture which doesn't include the little face:
The Melbourne Zoo has a Butterfly exhibit. This is probably the best closeup I have ever taken with my little point-n-shoot.
These little fairy penguins are also at the zoo. We visited the penguin colony on Phillip Island but did not get any good pictures. These penguins are about twelve inches tall.
The oldest critter we found was at the Melbourne Museum, and he was celebrating a holiday. Apparently.
Pooties
Because it's that time of year ;-) (my caption)
In memory of Dave Arneson, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, who died earlier this week.
I made this LOL to keep me company when I was waiting for Diary Rescue to appear. Diary Rescue is a regular front page feature wherein volunteers "rescue" well-written diaries that slid by without a lot of attention. It's the secondary reason why I joined this place!
As always thanks to icanhascheezburger.com for today's LOLs
