Hello...it's Caturday!
I'm Benny05, your guest host and thrilled to be filling in for
who will be back on Wednesday.
Groundrule: play nice in this sandbox. If you are not a fan of pooties, please comment in the nearest Open Thread.
Tomorrow is the start of American Library Week. This diary is dedicated not only to the unsung heroes, librarians--who are busier than ever helping folks look for career information, checking out more books and DVD's due to a down economy, or helping their patrons find tax forms-- but to the PWB's who adopted libraries and librarians. Pooties are very much a part of library culture, and probably the most famous, was Dewey Readmore Books of the Spencer IA Public Library.
If you are not familiar with Dewey, he appeared in the library's drop box one cold January morning when he was just a few weeks old. After nursing him back to health, the Librarians couldn't live without him. And he stayed for 19 years, charming many library patrons. He had a sixth sense about who needed to be comforted, especially the Head Librarian, Vicki Myron who had a cancer scare, family losses, and a broken marriage. Children with disabilities and often were shy with others would reach out to Dewey and he to them. To say the least, he was very therapeutic.
Dewey went to Rainbow Bridge in 2005, but his memory lives on in the book written by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter. I heartily recommend the book and perhaps you can request it through your local library.
Librarians are fussy about keeping things in order, and these pooties are no different.
This pootie will help you with questions regarding fish and ornithology:

Whereas Benson is more into computers, which are used the most to access resources at the Library:
Benson is not your typical library pootie in the sense he doesn't care about organized stuff. He'z just curious.
Now pooties are not the only critters who enjoy the library.

This critter was spotted in the Danbury PL:
and then there is Sophie, who was at a bird talk at the San Jose PL:
Sophie does classroom visits with the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group. She does get to fly on a regular basis, and is also used for breeding. She was selected as a 1 week old from a clutch being raised for release into the wild. (courtesy of Gimlack)
Please share your own critter photos and tell us about the critters you have met and loved. And, go by your local library and "check it out". Thank your librarians!
UPDATE: Recommended? I appreciate that. This is my first diary this year! Scritches for all of your pets!
