I love this website, but I'm sooooo done with the teabag stuff. This site has wasted so much space mocking it that it may end up increasing the buzz around the phenomenon.
Sometimes there are people/issues for which there is no such thing as bad press, and often the best thing to do at that point is to not give them any.
Stephen Colbert often does a really good job showing some media idiot and then not referring to him (it's usually a him) by name at all. I love how he can slam someone and then not even provide them with infamy by name.
There are several young sex symbols and rightwing flamethrowers for whom there is no bad press. Any attention feeds them. Some of the rightwingers get most of their readership from those who love to hate them. Some of the young sex symbols make money off their "stolen" sex tapes. The best strategy for these folks, imho, is to ignore them and not mention their names.
Are there other types of people for whom this same strategy would be effective? Perhaps this strategy is better at certain times than others. Back when Rush was just a shock jock, I advocated ignoring him, but now that Obama has revealed him as the de facto head of the Republican party, I love to spread his name around since he is such electoral poison.
