[Short Diary Alert]
Short and to the point, across the ridge...
The president had best be playing the coolest "good cop" routine in history, or else the U.S. will go the way of the U.S.S.R.
And more importantly, if he is playing the role, or if he is not, one thing is crucial: Many more Americans had better grow up and wake up and demand vigorously that their nation be the country of its own ideals. Demand in the streets, demand in the voting booth, demand accountability.
If Obama is playing good cop to the hilt, then he's relying on it.
If he's not taking that approach, then he has to be forced into doing the right thing. If we do not, America is already beyond the point of no return.
The economy can't save the nation, because it is/was a nation that relied on principles and ideals. With those squarely and unarguably in the trash bin in a way that even many in the mainstream cannot deny, America loses a lustre it has critically depended upon for its success in almost every instance.
In short, if America and the American people fail to prosecute their own bloody hands for international war crimes, then America and Americans will have become that worst image and excuse used by everyone and anyone whom has hated the U.S. so much as to seek to attack and kill Americans - just for being Americans.
If Obama plays it too weak, thinking that the future and coming together - and 2010 elections - are more important than History and doing what's right, America will be a nation of undeniable hypocrisy.
If the American people sit on their hands, giving too much trust to yet another president, and/or being once again frozen with fear, then the United States of America will have failed.
All else is spin, and vile.
