This is a re-post. The meetup was planned rather last-minute, and we want to make sure everyone knows about it.
Hope you can join us tonight; rameyko is visiting from Texas, and he'd like to meet some of our NY kossacks. Ramey's a very interesting guy, as you'll see below the fold.
But first, the meetup details:
Shades of Green
125 EAST 15th Street, just west of Irving Place
Monday, April 20, starting at 6 pm
I met Ramey last summer in Austin. He, kath25 and I went to El Chilito for tacos before the start of Netroots Nation. The tacos there are outstanding, and I expect to have them again when I'm in Austin at the end of May -- yum! Here's a pic of kath and ramey in front of El Chilito.
Ramey has a record of working hard for progressive causes and candidates. He founded Asian Americans for Obama and served as a member of the steering committee of the Obama campaign's Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Leadership Council.
Of course, Ramey's most recent claim to fame is that he was addressing the Texas House Elections Committee about the Voter ID bill when state Representative Betty Brown made the absurd and offensive suggestions that Asian Americans adopt names that are easier for Americans to understand.
You can view video of the incident here. It has since been mentioned on Saturday Night Live and in The Onion.
Here is Ramey responding to Rep. Brown's comments on local (Austin) news.
I know Ramey would love to meet any of you who can make it on Monday. I'd love to see you all, too.
