There's plenty that could be done within left-leaning circles, but I wonder if it would also be worthwhile to make common cause with all the conservatives who are newly alarmed at the new extent of presidential power.
Many of them don't care about torture, sure, but the polling I've seen suggests there are at least some Republicans who do. And if the focus isn't just torture specifically, but reining in state power in general – warrantless wiretapping, no-fly lists, rule of law, etc. – they might be convinced to come along.
What do Kossacks think? Is coalition-building with conservatives with principles (both old and newly-found) worth the effort? What forms might it take?
(Please put on your reasonable, pragmatic, "Republicans aren't all totally evil, just _ percent of them" hat before replying. If you have a hat like that.)
