Man, when the press finds a theme they like, they will drive down that road no matter what evidence is right in front of them that says otherwise.
Let's be perfectly CLEAR: Obama has ALWAYS said that he OPPOSED TORTURE and put an immediate end to waterboarding and other similar tactics approved by the Bush administration. This is not disputable.
Yet, to our country's 4th estate, just the fact that Obama is allowing Holder to look into prosecution and that Emanuel on Sunday said they would not be looking into prosecution.
See here and here and well, anywhere on Politico.com ...
My favorite, though, is Ed Rollin's hit piece today on CNN.com saying that now allowing prosecution of torture approvers in the Bush administration somehow makes Obama look weak! My gosh, it is amazing to see the way that conservatives band together like the Borg and protect their own.
Personally, I take this as the DC Villagers not accepting the fact that the Bush/Cheney/Rove message machine is longer in power. The Obama administration allows people to think for themselves and to speak their opinions.
This has the MSM all mushy in their heads. Somehow, they have equated movement toward allowing prosecutions (YEAH!) as being weak on torture or waffling on torture!! HUH?? He has NEVER changed his position!
As usual, Media Matters did a terrific job documenting these here. There is also good mention at MMFA of how the press spins its wheels trying to investigate the Obama messaging of torture prosecution but can't be bothered to spend any investigative journalism on the crimes of the Bush administration.
