I've been reading the Senate Armed Services Committee Report on Detainee Abuse and other news reports. I find it difficult to keep track of the various people who created the torture program, approved it, knew about it, and carried it out.
The purpose of this table is to begin to assemble a coherent list of all those individuals who may have participated in, justified, or known about torture activities carried out by the United States since 2002. It contains information culled from the report of the Report by the Senate Armed Services Committee on Detainee Treatment and some news stories. It is probably not inclusive. Moreover, some implicated individuals may not have done what has been claimed. For example, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi denies that she knew torture was occurring.
I hope that others will add to the list and make it available. I apologize for the space-y word2html table formatting and all errors of commission and omission.
I thought to publish the table here, which would have made this a reasonably long diary. And I spent 13 hours trying to post it. Alas, the effort proved hopeless. So, in this sadly short diary, I will describe the table and you can edit the table on Google Docs.
The table has 3 colums: Who? What? When?
I noted my sources and linked to them. When you see the term (Senate Report), it refers to this Senate Armed Services Committee report, which can be accessed in the original by clicking on the link. Other sources are also hyperlinked for your review and assessment.
It has about 50 rows, listing 1) Who? 2) Did (or knew) what? and 3) When did they do (or know) it?
I hope the table is helpful and that people will add to it as more information becomes available.
