Torture
I really do wish people including our president would stop using the word mistake when talking about the Bush administrations deliberate use of torture. There was no 'mistake' about it:
It did not just happen, it was planned and they did it in our name.
From the president on down, it was justified by the Attorney General's office, and then this justification was passed right on down to those who carried out the torture.
To say it was in any way a mistake is laughable.
Stop calling it a 'mistake' and say instead
"It was a cold deliberate policy that went against International law using a legal methodology put in place a system designed to commit crimes against humanity."
Preemptive war
Same thing goes for the Bush Doctrine and preemptive war, this was determined to be a War Crime at Nuremberg. Bush & Co were determined to invade Iraq from day one, 9-11 had nothing to do with this blatant act of aggression against a sovereign nation.
We should be investigating both of these crimes because they were deliberate and thought out plans to break the law.
War profiteering
War profiteering carried out in our name, and was part of the original planning, who cares if the country paid it's individual/corporate profit that mattered.
I find the lack of investigation into these crimes sickening. Just because we are militarily and economically the most powerful nation on earth does not give us some Divine Right to flaunt the law. If we don't uphold the law then who are we to demand others to do so, this madness leads to chaos. Just because we say it was a mistake does not pardon those guilty from punishment. Who do we think we are when we say we can ignore the crime for the sake of the nation and our own healing. What about the hundreds of thousands we killed, what healing do they get?
Who around the world gives a rats ass if we changed political leaders in DC when the end result is a bunch of pathetic excuses. Meanwhile one of the architects goes happily on TV and gives the middle finger to our victims and ourselves?
Just who do the fuck we think we are?
Our military invaded and now occupy Iraq based on the illegal doctrine of preemptive war.
Our agencies and military organised torture.
Many of our elite profited from the wars.
Both political parties supported the invasion of Iraq with a few against.
Up to 75% of Americans supported the initial invasion of Iraq.
I wont even mention the farce that is Afghanistan since that one goes all the way back to Reagan, nor our monkeying about in Iran since that one goes back to 1953.
I think it is time we said more than "sorry, oops our bad".
I want these fucking assholes investigated/prosecuted and punished.
There is no argument that these crimes were committed, there is little doubt who was responsible, what there is is a lack of will to prosecute those responsible.
Until that time we are merely a bunch of apologists and hypocrites. We owe it to ourselves to push our leaders to appoint special prosecutors for these crimes. If it ruffles a whole barrel full of feathers so be it.
None of this can even be remotely referred to as a mistake [national disasters more like] since they were permitted by:
1] The Administration
2] The Senate
3] The House
4] The Supreme Court
5] The American People.
A few spoke out, the majority followed.
Is it merely national guilt stopping investigations going forward, or because many in power today are in fact just as guilty as those we threw out last November?
Conclusion
My interpretation for the lack of investigations must be that many of those in power now were involved in some way, and many were probably culpable of aiding and abetting these crimes themselves.
Until we have complete and independent enquiries into these crimes my conclusion must be:
Many still in power are guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Now prove me wrong by appointing special prosecutors.
