While on the rec list we are talking about the past antics of new Republican Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Jefferson Beauregard Sessions , we bring you another Sessions story. We learn today that Pete Sessions from Secessions Texas (TX-32) hits the headlines for having another Las Vegas PAC fundraiser according to the latest FEC reports.
spent a total of $4,391 on "food and beverage costs" at the February event to raise money for his political action committee to benefit GOP candidates, according to federal election records.
The establishment - the Tao nightclub and restaurant on the Strip - isn't as risqué as the fundraiser Sessions held last year at the Forty Deuce burlesque club in Vegas. Still, Tao isn't exactly a paradigm of conservative family values.
I guess Sessions didn't learn from the outpouring of criticism regarding his 2007 fundraiser at the Forty Deuce that What Happens in Vegas Doesn't Really Stay in Vegas. It ends up on your FEC reports if you are a Congressman.
Another example of the hypocrisy of the Republican Party
Oh remember
Sessions scolded Super Bowl half-time entertainer Janet Jackson for forcing her "liberal values upon the rest of the country" that he and the pop star would wind up hanging at the same hot spots in Sin City?
Oh the Website of Club Tao boasts that Janet Jackson hangs out at the club.
This is the fifth straight year that Sessions has held PAC fundraisers in Las Vegas for his People for Enterprise Trade and Economic Growth PAC
Do they call it the PETE PAC? If so that is really lame.
So where did this money go that was raised?
According to FEC disbursements of Session's PEOPLE FOR ENTERPRISE TRADE AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
PAC for the 1st quarter of 2009
- well $5,000 went to Joseph "Ahn" Cao who replaced Dollar Bill Jefferson (LA-02) - of course Cao is expected to go down rather easily
- $2,500 went to Steve Chabot for Congress (OH-01)
- $15,000 went to the NRCC
and
- $5,000 went to the New York Federal Campaign Committee
The DCCC and the NRCC already had this to say
Ryan Rudominer, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the NRCC's counterpart, says, "With no new ideas, and no new strategy, it's no surprise that NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions and the out of touch Republican leadership would rather party at Las Vegas night clubs and a Brittany Spears concert than offer real solutions to the serious economic challenges facing our country."
We give the last word to NRCC spokesman Ken Spain, who says Democrats shouldn't throw stones. "It is ironic that Democrats are making hay out of a trip to Vegas when Nancy Pelosi is doubling down on the futures of our children and grandchildren with trillions in mounting debt."
No contest here, looks like Sessions is the one that crapped out in this public relations war.
