Everyone seems to be saying that the Republican party is dead and Democrats are immune from any future electoral challenges. I dont see how these people could be more wrong. I remember in early 2005 when everyone was saying that the Democrats were dying a slow death, but by 2006 they were back in control of Congress. In 1974 and 1976, everyone said that the Republican party was in so bad of shape that they should change their name. By 1980, they had control of the Senate and the White House again. Hubris is what will kill the Democrats.
Small, scattered results are popping up everywhere that are showing that the Republican party is rebounding. On Tuesday night a Republican won the Anchorage, Alaska(which makes up 40% of the state's population) mayor's office by a 57%-43% to replace Democrat Mark Begich, who is now Senator. Since Obama's election in November, Republicans have already had a net gain of two state legislative seats.
I am not a concern troll. I just want us to be watching our backs and sleeping with one eye open at all times for the next few years. I see what happens when political parties get overconfident and the results are not pretty and are in many cases, very hard to reverse. Almost every time in recent history that people declared a political party dead, the party just came back stronger in the next election. We need to watch our backs.
