I continue to be amazed at the ways my neighbors are responding to climate change. Here are a couple of upcoming events:
The Boston Area Solar Energy Association will be presenting an "insulation slam" at which a handful of local contractors will be presenting their latest super-insulation details (mostly retrofits, some new construction) for group feedback. and frank talk about the pros, cons, costs, and performance of the various approaches.
With any luck, this will be a great opportunity to move our industry a little closer to the 80% greenhouse gas reduction goal that we're supposed to be hitting by 2050.
Please feel free to pass this invitation along to any builders, architects, code officials, and homeowners whom you think might be interested.
The event will take place on Thursday, May 14th, at 7:30 PM (doors open at 7 PM) at 3 Church St. in Harvard Square, Cambridge,

The federal government hasn’t cut carbon yet, so let’s do it ourselves!
· Help to weatherize a historic building and community resource
· Learn skills you can take back to your own home
· Make new friends
· Share food and celebrate with a live band
The Work List Includes:
· Work behind the church organ fixing 3 giant 35’ tall windows
· Install interior storms that unzip for the summer months
· Make old windows less rattling and drafty with a few inexpensive fixes
· Change air conditioner filters to make them much more efficient and much more…
See parts of a historic church in Harvard Square you’d never get to see normally!

Organized by the Home Energy Efficiency Team (HEET), a Cambridge-based
co-op bringing neighbors together to weatherize our homes and take the energy future into our own hands. http://www.heetma.com/
What links these two events is that they are both occurring at the First Parish UU Church. The church is a great community resource, hosting the BASEA lectures for years as well as other events such as the Cambridge Forum (where I saw Michael Shellenberger of the Apollo Alliance last week).
We aren't waiting for the government to act. We are doing it ourselves and I'm glad to be part of it.
