Some bristle when words like racist are used here and I understand because I do too. But if you follow the history of Dick Cheney, there is one thing he has not shied away from, is his white supremacy tendencies. Anyone who can publicly denounce Powell, a cabinet officer in his own administration for racist like Limbaugh speaks volumes. Some may say Powell deserves what he get because he a chance to redeem himself but refused to do so. For Cheney Iraqis did not matter. He wanted them annihilated. Do you remember the "Shock and Awe" It was intended to maim as many Iraqis they could. Would he advocate "Shock and Awe" if we fighting Britain? The answer is no. Yes, the title Racist Dick Cheney fits. And if the shoe fits, Dick should wear it

This is one of many reasons

Chenny was one of four republicans that voted against Mandela

When Rep. Dick Cheney voted against a 1986 resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela and recognition of the African National Congress, Americans did know this man had been waiting decades for his freedom. In a larger sense, so had all black South Africans. The tenets of American democracy -- one man, one vote -- were denied to the majority of citizens, along with the most basic economic and educational needs.

Yet Republican vice presidential candidate Cheney still defends his vote, saying on ABC's ``This Week'' that ``the ANC was then viewed as a terrorist organization. . . . I don't have any problems at all with the vote I cast 20 years ago.'' What, then, does this tell us about what information Cheney considers before he takes a decision? And what the long-term consequences are likely to be, and on whom?

Pete Botha was a renowned racist and for Cheney to support him then speaks for itself.

In fact, while the United States maintained diplomatic ties with South Africa, former President P.W. Botha ordered the 1988 bombing of the South African Council of Churches in Johannesburg. Twenty-three people were injured. For decades, other government operatives did far worse, killing and maiming everyone from political activists to infants.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

CARE about racism.  In other words if in his twisted sith brain it's in the best interest of the United States to align with racists, he'd do it without a second thought.  In very much the same way that pretty much every President we've ever had has cozied up with the misogynist Saudi Arabia without necessarily hating women.

Beyond that this diary says Cheney wanted to kill Iraqis for racist reasons... more specifically that he "wanted them annihiliated."  Weak ground.

I think the implication is that Cheney was okay with killing lots of Iraqis because he doesn't value the lives of brown people as much as he does white people, not that he wanted to kill them because they are brown.

"He wanted them annihiliated" any other way.

I don't believe ANYBODY EVER wanted Iraqi Civilians annihiliated.  I believe that we had plenty of folks that didn't care if they were in the way of national interests, but when you take it to the next level and say anyone desired their annihiliation I'm not on board anymore.

I respect the alternate interpretation though.

          •  I think Cheney sees the world in terms of power (0+ / 0-)

He is only concerned with power and how someone with power is bound to exercise it in a way that maintains that power.  It is most likely irrelevant who holds the power, he just believes that you do what you have to do to maintain power.  If that means supporting racists, so be it.

To me a story like this is interesting, because it discusses the idea that someone can be considered a terrorist at one point, and then when power happens to change hands, those same people are now no longer considered terrorists.  Which day did they stop being terrorists exactly? Was it a Wednesday that they were all of a sudden not terrorists?

The lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience.

The price of racism just fell through the floor.

If you want in on racism NOW is the time to buy.  We are experiencing bargain basement prices never seen before in history!!!!

It can only go up from here ladies and gentlemen, get in on the ground floor.  This is a disappointment considering racisms IPO, where everybody either died or was enslaved for life because of the color of their skin, now merely disagreeing with a person of color is enough, the disagreement does not even have to be related to race.

Don't let this recent drop in the value of true racism scare you away, it can't possibly go any lower!!!!!!!!

  •  Cheney was really the President. We laughed at (0+ / 0-)

the idea then, but it becomes obvious daily.

    •  I don't know if it was just Cheney (0+ / 0-)

I don't use these terms lightly, in fact I never do until now, but it just seems like they were the definition of a cabal.

A cabal is a number of people united in some close design, usually to promote their private views and interests in a church, state, or other community, often by intrigue.

It was really a presidency by committee.  Bush was the empty vessel they needed to enact their policies, but in reality they were just running the ideas of a select set of people who were interested mainly in maintaining power for a small group.

I don't have so much of an issue with the idea of maintaining power.  When you are in power, you get to call the shots.  It's the idea that we had what amounted to an openly secret group of individuals who were channeling their policies through someone who lacked the ability to think critically or morally on his own.

The lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience.
