I am distressed by the way it seems that certain Democrats are caving on a public healthcare option. We are at a crucial moment in time on this issue, and have a real chance to mark a turning point in our nation’s history. We need to turn up the heat on this issue, and I wish that Obama was going on the air at every chance to let people know what a Public option would mean. that ther would be people trying to derail real change by misrepresenting what would be a real public healthcare plan for all.
If he were to go on offense and inform the American people himself, tell them to call thier senators to let them know they want this and not private insurace companies, this would pass with flying colors.
All of the on the fence Democrats would be forced to get on board!
I just wrote a letter to Senator Schumer about this issue, and would hope everyone who reads this would do the same. Dont get complacent. We can never stop pushing until we have our healthcare that we all deserve.!!!
Please read my letter and let me know what you think.
Dear Senator Schumer
My name is Dan XXXXXXX and I am from Nyack NY. I am writing to you because I am very unhappy with your current compromise proposal for a public option for health care coverage in the United States.
We are at a crucial moment in time on this issue, and have a real chance to mark a turning point in our nation’s history. As a senator of New York, you have a real chance to make a serious mark on history, but only if we change the fund amentals of how we do business regarding healthcare, and relationship it has to the insurance industry. I don’t believe that we can let the insurance companies continue to control us. A public plan option will put the control of health care back in the consumer’s hands, and force the insurance industry to bring down prices to compete.
The stars are aligned right now. We have overwhelming majorities in both houses and a President who gets it! We can’t waiver. We have to hold strong and get this legislation passed to help our people survive! I can not stress this more strongly because after this year, we may never be in this strong position to pass true health care reform again! A public option to bring down costs through competition will not only help individuals, but will help American businesses, and be in the interest of the long term financial health of our nation that is currently being strangled with debt.
If we pass a plan with your compromise, and find later that we don’t like it, then we could realistically have to wait for at least ten years before we get the political will to try for another change in the system.
So please Senator Schumer, I’m asking you align with Dr. Howard Dean, and please support the public option without a compromise! It is the only chance for real reform and I can’t support anything less then a public option, or any politicians who support anything less then at least a public option!
BTW... I worked for President Obama on his campaign in four different states last year because of this one issue. I know where he stands. I want you to fight for this once in a generational chance to make true change in our broken healthcare system because its the right thing to do. The 2010 elections are right around the corner. With the current state of the economy, and the beginning of a recovery not a sure thing by 2010, I believe that passing a major policy initiative like health care needs to get accomplished to guarantee our majorities in the congress. If we fail to pass a health care policy without a true public option, I fear that the excitement, and true passion felt by democrats who were compelled to get involved in last years election in record numbers will be lost. We could be put at a real disadvantage in 2010 if we don't pass the legislation that Democrats were asking for when that put Obama in office.
We cant lose this momentum! We have to ride his sixty six percent approval rating all the way to universal coverage!
If it is possible, I would like to set up a meeting with you to discuss the topic of Health Care. My passion is contagious, and I believe I can make my case to you better in person.
Thank you for your time.
