Yesterday I posted "Bring a Gun to a Gang War" in the diary "Dear Eugene Robinson: Never take a knife to a gun fight". That diary was complaining about accidentally watching Liz Cheney, Dick Cheney's oldest daughter, easily defending her sicko father's war crimes. The diarist had awoken watching the softball forum run by Joe "Schmoe" Scarborough (and Mika Brzezinski, the daughter of Carter's Secretary of State Zbigniew Brzezinski, who started the mujahideen war that blew back on us so badly) shown mornings on MS-NBC. The media people questioning her, including Eugene Robinson who's one of my favorite TV talking heads, treated her as if she didn't have some deeply vested interest in (more) lying to protect her family's longstanding racketeering. In this diary, I present that point for discussion, and recommend how to properly treat these hideous criminals when they have the nerve to strut around in public like normal people.
The main problem with our corporate mass media is that it continues to respond to these known criminals as if they are just some guy appearing on TV. They are not. They are severely evil criminals. They are now well known to have planned, promoted, approved, overseen and operated torture programmes. Torture designed to produce false confessions to be used as corrupt data to persuade Congress and America to invade Iraq, to stay there, and to ignore actual security threats like that in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
When asking them questions, there's no "benefit of the doubt" possible anymore. A good question is "Since you lied us into war, why should we believe anything you say now?" or "Aren't you just lying to keep from going to jail for war crimes?" If you want to give them an undeserved role in deciding what's a war crime, ask them "How are you not guilty of these war crimes, when others doing what you did were guilty?" Until and unless those questions, and other ones - some much harder, like "how does it feel to run a global torture and murder operation that endangers the US? - are answered, there's no reason to care what else these criminals have to say.
Journalists, including Robinson (one of my favorites on TV), continue to treat these people and these sessions as if they're not war criminals. They're "innocent until proven guilty" in a court of law. In the court of public opinion, they have to defend themselves from the facts we already have. If they refuse, let them claim their legal rights, and stay out of the public. Otherwise all that's happening is they're peddling their lies without anyone even mentioning that they're lying to stay out of jail.
