As if Satan’s tail was gathering and sweeping heaven clean of a third of its angels, we may owe the 666 beast himself, Dick Cheney for eradicating the American political landscape of flunky evildoers on his way to a well deserved political hell. We are all about to witness the greatest show on earth, as we watch the United States Congress turn on itself, by viciously and politically hacking itself to death. Watching the former administration led by Dick Cheney take down Democratic leaders that failed to act promptly, ethically and with strength when confronted with the tough choices is ugly but necessary business.
Finally, we have all the elements necessary to allow this dysfunctional and thoroughly corrupt body of government to self-destruct. In what is becoming an obvious web of lies to cover up complicity in the crime of torturing detainees, Congress is nervously and at a snails pace proceeding with the first stages of the Bush administration interrogation hearings.
It is abundantly clear, Congressional leaders would love for this story to die behind a wall of headlines touting high employment numbers, rising foreclosure rates, the healthcare reform clash or the upcoming battle over the next Supreme Court nomination. But much to the chagrin of all those that dreaded the day that Barack Obama released the torture memos, this story has taken on a life of its own.
Nancy Pelosi and everyone else in the so-called Gang of Eight are going to be dragged into the eventual hearings and subsequent investigations to determine what the hell they did and what the hell they should have done. The lines by the Bush flunkies, that we were attacked, we were a country at war, we were under siege and we had to do what we thought would keep America safe just won’t fly. Nor will the Democrats line of, the CIA lied and or intentionally misled Congress, is going to get much traction with public opinion either.
One need not be particularly politically astute to feel the murmurings of “we know as much about what you knew and when you knew it, as you know about what we knew and when we knew it” is shifting into high gear. These are the initial salvos of a very bloody political conflict on the horizon and we can’t wait to see the first heads roll when the real brawl gets under way. The time for a complete purging of ineffectual and fraudulent leadership is way overdue in this country and short of an outright people’s rebellion, these upcoming hearings should get the job done nicely.
As the nation faces the daunting task of pulling itself out of total financial ruin, we are going to need strong, tough, independent and incorruptible leadership committed to the people’s good.
As the nation, after thirty plus years of allowing millions of middleclass jobs be outsourced around the world, while criminally and negligently keeping our borders open for cheap labor to benefit midsized/big business, we are going to need leadership that can think beyond their next fund raisers and “private” campaign contributions. As a country that has lagged behind other industrialized nations in providing basic healthcare to its citizenry, we are going to need less greedy and more compassionate elected officials willing to confront the hordes of whoring lobbyist paying for needless and endless debates, designed to keep kicking the can down the road.
But most importantly, as America limps its way into Afghanistan/Pakistan with a broken, depleted, aging, stressed-out and soon to be demoralized military, we are going to need only those of the highest moral and ethical character to manage and oversee the people/agencies responsible for defending the country. To date, we have had anything and everything but what we really needed.
We applaud President Obama for his efforts to move forward by learning from past mistakes and not wasting time looking in the rearview mirror, but what has transpired over the last eight years has been so egregious, someone has to pay. Yeah, its on now and this is the best seat in the house to watch the fireworks start. Click here for the podcast. http://retrovisionmedia.com/...
