How is it possible that Nancy Pelosi is getting pulled into a bunch of he-said-she-said over CIA briefings in 2003?

How come Nancy can't point at that the CIA was in a state of collapse during this period? The Republicans are howling in mock indignation that anyone would suggest anyone from CIA would lie, and Porter Goss has joined in the chorus claiming Nancy is hurting the CIA.

Porter Goss? Porter Goss who hurriedly resigned as CIA chief just before the FBI raided the house of his buddy and CIA executive director "Dusty" Foggo?

These are the guys that dragged the CIA into a scandal of bribery and prostitution. The press nearly ignored it, and now these disgraced CIA people act like they weren't part of it. It's not hypocracy, it's the new brand of GOP incomprehensible in-your-face-batshit-crazy.

And hey, don't leave out George Tenet who headed the CIA under Clinton and Bush until 2004.  After failing investigate all thse desperate warnings about attacks by Al Qaeda, Tenet helped make the case that Sadam had WMD, although he later denied that he had actually called it a "slam dunk."

Nancy Pelosi is doing her usual deer-in-the-headlights routine while the GOP beats up on her. Maybe Nancy just needs to play up the hapless little old lady persona, because she just freezes under fire.

Hell, even Newt is getting into it. Newt is the Don King of politicians, well he isn't really a politician since he hasn't been elected to anything since God knows when. It's nearly impossible to decipher Newt any more:

"I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."

Poor Newt is reduced to jumping up and down and spouting incomprehensible monkey noises.

Are they saying Bush did nothing wrong but Nancy should resign because she did not complain about Bush doing nothing wrong?

Or that she has cast doubt on the honesty of the CIA at the time they were ginning up fake WMD reports?

Or that Nancy has cast doubt on the integrity of the CIA chiefs who resigned because of sex and bribery scandals?

But more to the point, why can't Nancy swat this away? This is like playing basketball against hamsters or debating a goldfish.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
