Sen. David Vitter sent me an email today crowing about the Senate's failure to provide money to transfer the prisoners at GITMO to prisons in the US.
Here's the response I sent by email:
There are two problems with your position against transferring GITMO prisoners into US prisons: 1) You suggest that US prisons can't handle these prisoners. That is disrespectful to the men and women in DOJ BOP uniforms who serve our country every day with hardened criminals and terrorists. 2) We expect our allies to accept some of these probable terrorists but we set a hypocritical example if we do not accept them on our soil - albeit into the federal prison system. Stop saying that these guys would be released into the US. The worst guys would never see the light of day and you know it.
Nothing remarkable. Just pointing out to Vitter that he's wrong and he knows it.
