Winsmith wrote a terrific diary a couple of weeks ago. In tribute to, inspired by, hat tip in the general direction of, in solidarity with...this one's for you, dude.
Did you ever love something someone had written in a diary so much you wanted to rush out make a video out of it? No? Well, you probably have a "life." Me, I was so taken with this bit that I felt compelled.
(Do you Digg it)?
It seems like there are certain inevitabilities in the current political climate. The GOP is so tone-deaf, so tin-eared, that it seems impossible for them to veer away from the Political Playbook Of Doom they've been reading from for the past few years. It's like they're locked in a suicide pact being played out in slow motion on our TVs every day.
That's not a statement about policy, of course. There's a fine case to be made that Christ was a progressive, that his teachings were (by virtue of their "empathy") inherently left-y-ish. This is not the point of this video--it's really not that sophisticated. This is simply pointing at the clown parade that is the current attempt by the GOP to "rebrand" themselves. Or to simply make a coherent political statement.
The Obama administration has signaled they'll be announcing a nominee before the end of the month. Please, feel free to come back then and say this was way off. But...somehow, it seems unlikely.
Of course, there's no guarantee that whomever Obama nominates, Boehner will pitch a fit, Bachmann will say something cra-zee, and Steele will make an asshat of himself. But, cm'on. What are the odds?
