This was predictable. Obama names Sonia Sotomayor, and the ugly wingnuts who constitute the far right Free Republic began to do the ugly dance, i.e., to react to the nomination with the same closed-mindedness and full fledged hatred that they generally hold toward everyone and everything that is not their own point of few.
Some examplesfollow. Note how they immediately zoom in on Judge Sotomayor's ethnicity and how it essentially reveals their own racism. Watch as they pathetically attempt to project this racism on to Sotomayor.
I am glad that the GOP has these fringy lunatics as their "base."
Here is one lame attempt to make a Hispanic joke by a freeper.

Geraldo says she is a Wonderful Wonderful Pick!
Geraldo would think Charo was a "wonderful, wonderful pick."

And another seeing her as merely the product of "affirmative action"
To: b4its2late
"Nah. The right will cave"
The GOP already caved. Back when Bush Sr cut a deal with Moynihan to appoint her to the Federal bench due to them wanting a FEMALE HISPANIC.
More racial politics...she truely is the affirmative action SC Justice.
...and yes elections do have consequences...I just wasn’t prepared that it would have been the election of the first Bush that made this all possible.
Boy, the Dims are really just better at this government game.
And another that goes along the same lines.
To: McGruff
Yep that affirmative action case will be the most controversial.
A whopping one paragraph of empathy and sympathy went into her decision lmao.
She probably couldn’t get 2nd place at a good private high school mock trial club.
To all of the white working class nimrods...enjoy your unemployment, you deserve everything you voted for....and btw, get at the end of the line for you next application for employment.

Here is one that thinks s/he is being coy and more subtle; the message remains the same, however.
To: popdonnelly
The trick would be to open up a full, riling up, national conversation about affirmative action while under the cover of discussing the issues around her nomination. Don’t make it come off as a personal attack—in fact use excess caution in expanding it out to a philosophical Constitutional debate—and bring the real question of equal rights under the law into the national dialogue.

Here is one that refers to the all powerful "Hispanic lobby"
To: b4its2late
No matter who he picks, the nation is in trouble.
Absolutely, because he has no ability to pick anyone who would uphold the Constitution.
Will she get confirmed? Probably, but not necessarily. But it does not have to happen without Zero spending enormous amounts of political capital on this. If Senate Republicans can stop kissing up to the Hispanic lobby (they'll never ever vote for us, unless we're as generous with the freebies as the Rats have been) and start exploiting the politics of division (yes, that's what an opposition party does), we can use this pick as an example.
Many really stupid guilty white Americans thought that a vote for an African-American president was going to "forgive" their race for centuries of racism. They thought Barry would help smooth over the fury that angry minorities have displayed over the past forty to fifty years. Sotomayor's decision on the New Haven firefighters' case proves that the executive and judicial branches of government will still be bent over backwards to accomodate the demands of the unqualified.
We need Republicans with the testicular fortitude to slam hard on this, and other such views of this would-be writer of laws, and show the really stupid people that they were being sold sizzle, and not steak when they voted for Lord Zero.
We may get stuck with this lousy woman as a Justice, but if it costs Obambi his second term, it might be worth it.

And, in spite the prevailing community views on Free Republic, a claim that "racism" is a false label
To: SE Mom
Anyone who has doubts about Sotomayor will soon be branded "racist" and "sexist".

Unless, of course, it is Sotomayor who is the racist.
To: popdonnelly
Yep, even though Sotomayer is the actual racist:
Sotomayer: I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

These sorts of posts give us a preview, in the raw, of the sort of wingnut "thinking" on this nominee; we will likely see somewhat cleaned up versions of this later, courtesy of people like Jeff Sessions and Mitch McConnell; it may be a bit more polite, but the gist of it will be very similar to what we are seeing today on the wingnutosphere.
