And they close plants here and open up plants in China and India. That's fair how?

General Motors is the world largest automotive company with almost 100 years of experience. It employs almost 300,000 people around the world, with global headquarters in Detroit, USA. In Europe, GM sells Opel, Vauxhall, Saab, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Corvette and Hummer models in over 30 markets.

There seem to be few cars than GM doesn’t have some ownership. GM has been on a major buying spree for quite some while, helped of course by the bargain basement pricing during the Asian Crisis. You can read their acquisition history here:

China Production
YANTAI, China — Yang Luzhou, who lives here in an industrial town facing North Korea across the bay, is about as far as can be from Americana.
Yang Luzhou on the assembly line at G.M.’s plant in Yantai, China. Growing up, he had never heard of Chevrolet cars. Now he builds them.
He is even farther from John Mellencamp’s “Our Country,” the flag-waving soundtrack for Chevrolet’s latest marketing campaign in the United States.
But just the other day, the classic “Bear Went Over the Mountain” and the Confederate anthem “Dixie” wafted through the factory while he fiddled with a Chevrolet Aveo car door on a General Motors production line.
“I never thought I’d be building Chevrolet products,” he said. “I never heard of the Chevrolet brand when I was growing up.”
G.M. is hoping to change that for future generations of Chinese. It is counting on Mr. Yang, 27, and his 2,300 fellow assembly line workers here to help produce 200,000 cars this year as part of a giant bet to turn the Chevrolet brand into a household name in China.

Well, shit Yang, the auto workers in America are just as shocked as you are. Do they need to move to China for a job?
India
The capacity of Halol facility has been expanded to 85,000 units from 60,000 units in April 2007 to meet increased demand for Chevrolet vehicles. In the meantime, GM India’s second plant is fast coming up at Talegaon, near Pune in Maharashtra. Envisaged with an initial annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles, the plant is expected to commence production by the last quarter of 2008.

This is a huge story. You can go to this wiki site for an overview.

So, with very little research, it is clear how much global expansion GM has done RECENTLY. And they want $50 billion US tax dollars. Ahem! GM is NOT a US Corporation. It is a multi-national behemoth quickly becoming a leader in the China and India markets. Well, in my opinion, either Congress makes them manufacture here and export to China and India if they get a dime of our money, or let India and China bail the out.
DETROIT - General Motors Corp. said yesterday it will temporarily close 13 assembly plants in the United States and Mexico - some for more than two months - laying off nearly 24,000 workers to trim a bloated inventory. The closures, which will start next month, vary by factory from as short as 3 weeks to a long as 11, including the normal two-week July shutdown to change from one model year to the next. GM said the shutdowns will help control high dealer inventories and bring manufacturing in...

Canada
General Motors plants in Oshawa and St. Catharines, Ont., will shut down as the automaker announced Monday it will close or cut back 12 North American facilities and slash 30,000 jobs as part of a plan to return to profitability.
GM (NYSE:GM) chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner said the third shift at GM Canada's Number 1 plant in Oshawa will be cancelled in the second half of 2006, while the Number 2 plant will be closed in 2008.

The company said in the update that it will employ only about 4,400 production workers in 2014, down from 10,300 last year.
That's far below the go-go years of the late 1980s when GM had a production workforce of almost 40,000 at three assembly plants in Oshawa, two more in suburban Scarborough and Ste.-Thérèse, Que., and sprawling parts operations in St. Catharines and Windsor.

So GM said screw you to 35,600 Canadian employees. And that's helpful how?
Mexico
It began operations in this country in 1935 and today has efficient and modern manufacturing plants in Toluca, State of Mexico; Silao, Guanajuato; Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila; and in Mexico City. GM's investment is substantial as Mexico's single largest private employer. GM Mexico assembles many models for the domestic sales and worldwide export. It markets the Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadillac and Saab brands, and Fiat.

How well is OnStar doing these days? Anyone want to guess how many subsidiaries GM has? LOL
Well, if you have the time, check out the coincidence of North American Plant Closures with the increase in overseas production.
GM sold out America. And they want you and I, increasingly impoverished Americans, to bail out their traitorous buts? You have GOT to be kidding.
What is Treasury thinking? Jobs for Americans? If so, where are the USA production protections?
Why are we allowing GM to sell-out North American workers? Don't accept that globalization excuse, folks. Our Congress failed to protect us and corporations took full advantage, of course.
Our Congress has and is failing us. What can we do?
It began quietly, happened slowly, and then BushCo sounded the death knell. Personally, I don't buy it. Those on the top are rich enough to hold onto their shares until the process is complete. Low wages overseas, no entitlements, sales deep into the burgeoning populations of China and India, stocks rise again, and BYE BYE MISS AMERICAN PIE!
