Act like you've been there before. Act like you've got it and they're trying to take it away.
We got it! Go ahead sit back and smile. We got it. You got it. Your loved ones have it. Isn't it nice? You go to the doctor's office and no forms. No copayments. No credit checks or applications. No worrying about bankruptcy, unpaid bills and telephone calls. No home equity loans. You lost your job? You're covered. It's like a blanket on a cool night, isn't it? Just envision it.
Let it soak in. We have joined our fellow developed nations. They're proud of us. They're wondering what took so long. We can stick our chests out again. We can be proud of ourselves. We can take the yoke off and work and live more freely.
We have single payer and now the Corporate Guard - Blue Ticks and GOP - are trying to steal it. The corporations don't want us to have it anymore. PHARMA wants to raise their prices. Corporate hospital chains aren't happy:they don't have enough 8 figure incomes. They don't get to charge you $80 bucks for a pillow. And they're making ground. They're buying off the politicians. They're going to take away what you fought so hard for. A liberating guarantee of healthcare for all.
What are you going to do now? Tolerate it?
If when someone asks you how you're doing you don't open respond:
"I'm worried about losing my home because of medical bills. I wish we all had medicare" or "My credit record's shot because of medical bills I never knew I had. If we only had medicare for everyone" or "Medical bills are killing me, I wish we had Medicare for everyone. Medicare works" or "My insurance premiums just went up a few thousand a year, now I can't afford college for my kids." or anything that says you're worried about the downward spiral of our medical system, you're not fighting hard enough. You're not fighting for your future, your children's future, your kin and friends' futures. When someone asks you how you're doing, you tell 'em:
" You're sick and tired of insurance companies taking 30% for CEO bonuses, profits and paper pushing when people are dying."
We have Single Payer in many forms. Medicare being the most familiar. We all have. We just have to go get it. Anthony Weiner(NY-D) has it right here:
For all you red sash wearing blue ticks and GOPers -
