Local Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA-40) has added an important amendment to bill HR 2410 regarding divestment from the Sudanese Government to help put pressure on them to discontinue the war against their own people.
Orange County for Darfur is buoyed by this step by Royce to continue economic pressure on the Sudanese Government and encourage other Country's to do the same.
"We are really encouraged by Congressman Ed Royce's leadership on this critical issue. We hope all other Congressional Reps from Orange County are supportive of his efforts."
Here is the language of the amendment that Royce put forth...
It is so important not only that governments divest, but that local funds and other organizations that invest take their money out of the Sudan to help try to end this horrific genocide taking place in Darfur.
Let's thank Ed Royce for taking a step in that direction which will in turn help put pressure on other American companies to divest.
Most of us are unaware that our savings and retirement accounts are invested in companies that help fund the genocide in Darfur. Many US based firms, especially JP Morgan, Franklin Templeton, Fidelity Investments, Capital Group (American Funds), and Vanguard own shares in companies such as PetroChina, whose parent company CNPC does a lot of business with the government in Sudan and help fund the genocide.
