Welcome to Orange County California, where your unassuming evangelical ministers can openly admit to praying for our President's death. How Christian of him. Thanks to the local OC Weekly for picking up this gem.
Rev. Wiley Drake Prays for Obama's Death
Drake said on the June 2 Fox News Radio broadcast that he didn't understand why people were upset with his comments, which were quoted from a webcast of his own daily radio talk show.
"Imprecatory prayer is agreeing with God, and if people don't like that, they need to talk to God," Drake told invisible host Alan Colmes. "God said it, I didn't. I was just agreeing with God."
Oh, well then, that's it, God wants... I can't even type it. I can't even wrap my brain around this. Even in my most rabid anti-Bush fervor I never wished harm on The Shrub. But hey, since Sean Hannity said we're a Christian Nation it must be okay to pray for this sort of thing, right?
"Are you praying for his death?" Colmes asked.
"Yes," Drake replied.
"So you're praying for the death of the president of the United States?"
"Yes."
Colmes asked if he was concerned he might be placed on a Secret Service or FBI watch list. "I think it's appropriate to pray the Word of God," Drake answered. "I'm not saying anything. What I am doing is repeating what God is saying, and if that puts me on somebody's list, then I'll just have to be on their list."
"You would like for the president of the United States to die?" Colmes asked once more.
"If he does not turn to God and does not turn his life around, I am asking God to enforce imprecatory prayers that are throughout the Scripture that would cause him death, that's correct."
Hey, I'm sorry but this isn't like Santa's list, like who's naughty or nice.
As we know this is serious, this is inciting violence and using God's name in the process. What is becoming of us?
Oh and he also prayed for the death or Dr. Tiller.
Drake also condemned Rick Warren, Pastor says 'God will punish Rick Warren'.
BUENA PARK — Southern Baptist Pastor Wiley Drake bashed Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren this week, saying "God will punish" Warren for agreeing to give the invocation at President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration next month.
"I pray He is kind to you in this punishment that is coming," Drake wrote in a widely-released e-mail. In it, the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park pastor criticizes Warren's "recent plan to invoke the presence of almighty God on this evil illegal alien," a reference to Obama.
I know there are people who aren't quite right in the head out there, I know that. But as violence continues grow and there are people who are allowed to stir such anti-American sentiments, I wonder where our priorities are going?
This is not mainstream America, I get that, but as more people listen to Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity ratchets up his lies against Obama, what will the culmination of all these voices bring? And how can we counter act them?
We can't censor them, as much as I hate what they have to say, I vehemently believe in their right to say it, but we do have to ask, at what point is the line crossed? At what point?
H/T to DWG who also wrote about this on Friday, A stalker of Dr. Tiller wants Obama to die. This wasn't brought to my attention until I read it in our very good OC Weekly.
