Wed. June 10, (yesterday) Day 8 since June 2nd filing deadline. June 2nd was also the day those two lightweights (IQ not weight) Christie and Corzine had their primaries. I’ve been blogging about the serious stuff, real manlike, taking my lumps, in the Daily Kos for months. Those two however will never discuss single payer health care, drivers licenses for our illegals, automobile insurance too; amnesty, boycotting Mexico, and badmouthing the corrupt Mexican gov’t (the folks) that makes it almost impossible for my friend to make a living there. I discuss it. Here on the Kos. Will one reporter ever see this, read all my game diaries and take me up on my offer to go stay one week* in Mexico with this wonderful family I know, and witness firsthand, down and dirty, the economic fiasco the Mexican government has foisted on their poor citizens thanks to the corruption?
I’m going to manage my campaign myself; big race- lot's of time; and make sure these pricks in the media take notice....
Wednesday morning bookkeeping. Open yesterday's mail and discover a letter addressed to me from another Independent candidate, Josh Leinsdorf. More about that later. Google my name, that’s more important. It’s a habit now. See my name with a Wikipedia connection. Oh yea!!! Empowering.
I might not be the same G-man who’s a "sportscaster" living in Baltimore, working for CBS radio, multi-tasking as general sales manager, Ravens’ pre- and post- game show on ESPN etc. but my name is up in lights, all right just a link, one of billions on the world wide web (albeit with an erroneous connection).
I learn a little more each day on the computer. 18 months ago I didn’t even have an e-mail account. It appears you can edit information on the Wikipedia page... I see, thinking to myself (me the NJ G-man not that other guy) I’ll do the honors of correcting the false campaign info. That would be a constructive use of my time, but astutely I know there’s only so many free hours in the day, I have to go to work later cleaning offices and I’m in enough trouble from the Mrs. for not doing more around the house....and those barely, used tires I purchased from my pals at Dirkes junkyard, I still have to mount them on that $40 dollar contraption I purchased several years ago at Harbor Freight in Vineland. (They have all the latest tools straight from China, to our shores, via the West Coast.)
Pardon the interruption. Not unusual if you enjoy my writing style. But getting back to sub plot #1 of several, I tried typing in the following info. on my computer hoping to set the (Wikipedia) record straight. This is what I added...
Time Out: To Gary Stein, sports broadcaster Maryland. Is this "To Tell the Truth?"
If you added the content about yourself to the link "Gary Stein" above, or had your large staff at 105.7 FM help, this is the real Gary Stein, last year's http://steinforcongress.com/ now a candidate for Governor of NJ. Go get your own 854 signatures and run in Maryland. To Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. If you posted the wrong link to Gary Stein, candidate for Governor in NJ, then I need to apologize to the gentleman born in Miami Beach, 1961 for what I wrote above. I was born in Teaneck, NJ in 1956.
For good measure I copied the revision I had just made and sent it to my e-mail account thinking no one would believe me, because twice before it disappeared after seeing it posted. Feeling insecure I thought "F" it and forwarded the campaign development to all my favorite e-mail contacts in the elite media. Was there a reason not to?
Alas, as of this morning (Thursday) it's disappeared yet again. Now I see a real clown type, who is actually a comedian and calls himself "Uncle Floyd," has added his name to the list of candidates on the Wikipedia page, even though he missed the filing deadline. This son of a bitch might get more votes as a write-in then I'll get as a candidate.
Obviously I'm not editing the Wikipedia thing correctly, can you imagine the grief I'll have posting a web site? I've written extensively how my friend in Phoenix helped post the Yokel News last year for me, but is now angry with this candidate for not attending his daughters wedding last month. I had more important business in Toronto, Canada. Join the club Sam, my wife is not too happy with me either.
The future looks gloomy too because no one is reading this shit I write here on the Kos, and the "BLOCKBUSTER STEIN FOR GOVERNOR" with all the Woody Allen, Python, and music links is inevitably going to be too much sophistication for me to post myself.
For example, will I have trouble posting non political content like this on "BLOCKBUSTER STEIN FOR GOVERNOR?"
How about this? A you-tube of very earnest candidate Gary Stein pecking away at keyboard, 32 lb. cat code named The Big Moose (real name Jeckel) sitting along side on "his" cat chair and every time the Governor gets up to relieve himself, the friggin cat insists on jumping over to his Excellencies chair. Never fails. No wonder I have a bad back!
Back to the Wikipedia imbroglio, back to Independent candidate Joshua Leindorf, Mexico, amnesty, drivers licenses, Tim Horton sandwich shops invading across our northern frontier and whatever else is "Gentle On My Mind"
I'll nail this editing thing if it takes me all day, which I'm sure it will, the divorce will be sealed, but never mind, I'll put in proper biographical information now in Wikipedia about Gary the real deal Stein if it kills me.
Resume: Janitor, likes cats, rides a motorcycle.
Interests besides above: Welfare of 100 million short shrifted Mexicans and 300 million non-political Americans.
Earliest political memories: My late mother in TV room with shades drawn, crying November 22, 1963.
Earliest campaign I can recall: 1970 Three way race for NY Senate seat (Robert Kennedy's old seat?), Jim Buckley, Charles Goodell (father of football commissioner ) and Richard Ottinger. The liberals split the vote and Buckley sneaked in. We were all for Goodell the independent, I seem to remember Ottinger had a slight lisp, 39 years later I'm 100% for 3rd parties. Does that make sense?
1st campaign I volunteered for: Door to door for George McGovern, barely recall doing that. 16 at the time. Do recall campaign rally in Hackensack, NJ, guest speaker.......Ted Kennedy.
Last candidate I went ga-ga over. Birch Bayh, 1976. Could have settled easily for Morris Udall, uh, Frank Church, Terry Sanford, Scoop Jackson... oh! did I leave anyone out? J.C.- couldn't stand him. The Republican convention might be interesting I thought that year- at the time visiting my brother in N. Townsend, Mass. The brother is dyed in the wool Blue Stater.
Favorite recent President: Ronald Reagan
Favorite anylyst: Charles Krauthammer (you'd think he'd acknowledge an e-mail, clustered among the bunches I send out! That's all right. I'm not stupid, you have to stand out. Silly Sam in Phoenix said last year during that other race that I should wear a barrel around town. I don't think he meant around the house as well, but that might have worked. I choose to make a spectacle of myself this way, using a keyboard.
Back pages. My contact with Independent candidate Josh Lensdorf including his ideas to correct the impending exlusion of us in the debates, matching funds, etc., etc., and this paragraph from his letter, "Anyway, my feeling is that one of us should be the candidate for Governor, another should be Lieutenant Governor, and every other Independent should take a cabinet post, and we should present ourselves to the voters as a coalition.." Yada, yada, yada. Yada, yada my behind, that's a darn good idea. But what good are good ideas?
Dear Joshua,
I nearly missed opening your letter. Glad I did open. My quick response to you is "tell me about it" Any ideas one of us Independents has is worth considering. My cell is 609-703-1 blankety blank 1, my e-mail sadly is thebogmoosenj@hotmail.com Need to correct that if I’m going to be a serious candidate for Secretary of State or what not. We'll figure out later. Have to run! Isn’t that partly our problem. Too much to do, will get back to you. You can be certain of that. I’m the e-mail world champion as I try to get any attention for my "issue," or should I say the favor I’m asking of the elite media snobs. And I’m offering them a chance for a Pulitzer prize damn it!.
Best Regards,
Gary Stein Where all pissing into the wind you understand, and you know I appreciate the line "I know how much hard work it takes" to get on the ballot.
He then answered:
Dear Gary,
Thanks for your reply. After speaking with other candidates, I think
the best place to begin is that we should have a joint campaign website,
something like "New Jersey Candidates Websites for 2009." The website
will be nothing but links to all of the individual candidate's websites.
If we all campaign for ourselves and the website, I think we'll get traction.
It's the only way I can think of that we can cooperate with one
another and compete with one another at the same time.
Further down the pike, we can winnow the field and campaign together.
What do you do? What are your issues? Have you ever been elected to
office. I am attaching a picture of me on the abandoned railroad right of
way that I spent 31 years turning into a bike path.
I'll call you later.
Josh
I returned the favor in this top secret exchange
Dear Josh,
Thanks for your quick reply. No I’ve never been elected to political office. These day’s that could be considered an advantage. I ran for Congress last year in the 2nd district, rec’d no help from the press, no matter what the Atlantic City paper might think, got buried, and I’m aiming even higher this year because things are worse in 09 then they were in 08. Take that you bastards. I hope you just laughed because it’s either that or cry. And I’m sorry to even joke a little like this after what happened in Washington today at the Holocaust museum. Anyone can crack, today it was a nut job, tomorrow maybe someone who lost their health insurance and then has a medical emergency. That’s America 2009.
So far I like all your ideas. I haven’t posted a web site yet but I’m working on it. I had two sites last year, www.steinforcongress.com and a friend helped post www.theyokelnews.com about 10 days before the election. I haven’t edited (not that I’d know how, one sister in law and a friend did all the posting) one site for 10 months and the other since Dec. 09 for better or worse. This information was included on my contact page for the Yokel.. http://www.theyokelnews.com/...

Also on the ballot in New Jersey's second congressional district, competing with me, and now a friend. His choice of medicine is not my choice, but we're both coming from the same place. The heart. And we agree 100% that we have to break the two party stranglehold, and break the mindset that independents are irrelevant. A classic CATCH-22

You’d have to have gone to his web site to see what I meant by "medicine." It’s not up any more but he was not very kind in regards to illegal aliens, yet I did become friendly with him in spite of that. Anyway I was maybe thinking (back then) along same lines as yourself when you talk about a "joint campaign website" Nothing is going to be easy because the local papers and their staffs, live like us, but behave like the "elitists" at the big city papers. They’re all going to know what it’s like soon to depend on others, all the papers are failing. Now it’s the Boston Globe's turn.
Josh....... If it seems like I’m preaching a little it’s because maybe I’m already thinking in advance about the idea of including our back and forth as a diary in a political blog. I’ve written dozens as a kind of log of my fruitless attempts over the last year to intrigue one reporter to visit my friend in Mexico and see first hand the devastation caused by the miserable and corrupt government (Felipe Calderon and one or two excepted). http://www.dailykos.com/... and http://www.dailykos.com/... I would include your two page introduction letter. I hope you wouldn’t mind. I’m trying to pull out all the stops My Way, see I'm asking you a favor, we’re already being tested as to how we’d co-operate if we agreed to all of your great ideas.
Sincerely,
Gary Stein
....later we talked on the phone. He's a very nice guy.
And last but not least, that asterick (*) 6 miles of typing above, does anybody care, is anybody out there, can I take all my stories with me when I save everybody the trouble and check myself in to the mental hospital (but I don't have good health insurance, and this gentle soul will never be a public threat to society..... therefor I'm free to keep on writing and running for office); the *, that would indicate that me, one reporter and Beto would be lodged at his house which he never finished, which is very nice, and if you look out in one direction you'll have the most breathtaking view I ever saw. Look out the other side and there's a lot of garbage on the street. The governmental services down there, I seem to recall writing about it in another diary.
God bless everybody (is that the way politicians sign off, especially those from my persuasion?) New Hispanic registration, there it's included in the text (although my goal of rallying Hispanics to one party or the other is a fantasy), now nobody touch my tags like someone did, and then bragged about it in my last diary. (17 comments I got, 14 of those from myself to myself.)
