For too long we have had a broken "system" in which costs of care continue to rise while numbers of insured continue to decline. Yet the AMA continually insists that it has patients' best interests in mind as it argues against a public option for health insurance. As a patient I am here to say that, "The AMA Does Not Speak for Me!"
I believe patients can organize to combat the AMA and their faulty arguments against REAL healthcare reform. The AMA has a number of social networking outlets that we can use to share what patients really think! I've set up a blog to hopefully get people to start sharing ideas about how patients can influence the AMA and lawmakers to keep a healthcare public option. Go to AMA Double Speak and share your ideas on how we can tell lawmakers that the AMA DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ME!
The American Medical Association today announced its opposition to a public plan that would provide another option to insure that every American receives quality health care at reasonable costs. For too long we have had a broken "system" in which costs of care continue to rise while numbers of insured continue to decline. Yet the AMA continually insists that it has patients' best interests in mind as it argues against a public option for health insurance.
As a patient I am here to say that, "The AMA Does Not Speak for Me!" I refuse to put up with the AMA's tired arguments that have continually stood in the way of progress; from fighting Medicare, and labels on cigarettes, to torpedoing healthcare reform in the early 1990s.
Patients MUST STOP the AMA DOUBLE SPEAK of advocating for patients on one hand while preventing real reform on the other.
I've set up the AMA Double Speak blog to hopefully contribute to the community of patients who believe real reform is possible if we stand up against the AMA who says "no!" to health reform. I believe patients can take steps to bring about change to the AMA through the inside-out:
- Use the AMA's own "patients grass roots" resources to promote a public option for health insurance.
- Join the AMA's Patients' Action Network and advocate on behalf of a public option for health insurance.
- Go to the AMA's Facebook and MySpace sites and advocate on behalf of a public option for health insurance.
- What ideas do you have to bring about change?
Tell them that the AMA Does Not Speak for Me and that we want a REAL option to reform health care in America!
Spread the word! Make a change!
