Last week I diaried my first attempt to kayak with my German Shepherd, Sasha. I'd (fortunately) left my camera at home.
I tried again, yesterday. This time, I'd arranged for my dad and his wife to meet me at Herrick Lake, with their cameras. I also had my camera.
Any photos with me in them were taken by my dad. :) Thanks, dad!
Please join me over the jump.
Sasha is a German Shepherd who was rescued at a local shelter. She's a gorgeous dog with a lot of enthusiasm. (Her name at the shelter was 'May', which was short for 'Mayhem.') She is a perpetual ball fetching machine, so before we went in the kayak, I threw a Kong toy for 20 minutes, trying to wear her out down. Slightly.
Once she resigns herself to being in the boat (yeah, she jumped out and swam, at first), Sasha seems to have a good time. (And for those thinking it or who have suggested it - I have ordered a life jacket for her - it will be on her, for our next trip.)
Sasha enjoys having a lot of water available.
I think she finds the trips relaxing.
The view sure is pretty.
And after, the mud bath.
Well, not as much mud.
This is grandpa (my dad), getting ready to throw the toy.
We had a nice day. She did a major shift/turn around and winded up sitting on my left leg, which made it difficult to paddle. I was afraid if I pulled my leg out, she might jump out, and with my camera in the boat this time, I decided to let her cut off the flow of blood to my toes instead. :)
The life jacket has been ordered, and should be here well in time for our next outing.
