I went to the website of Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana. The form for sending him an e-mail is well-hidden, but I finally found it, and I sent him the same e-mail that I sent to his DINO colleague from Indiana, Senator Evan Bayh.
THEN I found this detestable press release on his website.
Press Release of Senator Lugar
Lugar receives insurance award
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar today received the Benjamin Franklin Public Policy Award from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).
The award is presented to members of the 110th Congress who have demonstrated their commitment to the principles of free markets and a competitive insurance environment for consumers by supporting legislation that encourages less onerous regulation, litigation, and taxation.
This is the fourth time Lugar has received the award.
We can break that down:

The award is presented to members of the 110th Congress who have demonstrated their commitment to the principles of free markets and a competitive insurance environment for consumers by supporting legislation that encourages less onerous regulation, litigation, and taxation.
Insurance companies: "We like you, Senator, because you help rig the laws so that OUR interests are first and foremost. Not the interests of those common people known not as citizens but as consumers."
This is the fourth time Lugar has received the award.
Senator Lugar: "It is an honor to have won this award as often as Rick Mears, Al Unser senior, and A.J. Foyt have won the Indianapolis 500. And it took so much less effort on my part, too! Never broke a sweat, broke a bone, or got dirty! Is this a great marketplace for politicians, or what?"
I'm going to go back to today's task--deep cleaning my kitchen--because I'm already feeling dirty just reading this press release.
