[cross-posted at Over the Line, Smokey!]

Jake Tapper is now tweeting that South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has called in after going missing for 4 days. His staff's story about the A. Trail is pretty bizarre/shaky.  Seems that Sanford drove a state car to the Atlanta airport, but that doesn't square with the 'hiking' story. Sanford clearly was not telling anyone what he was up to, including his wife.

Regardless: Now the real investigation should begin: Why are all the 2012 GOP presidential hopefuls running into the ditch? Who's behind it all?

Who really tipped off Fox News about Ensign's zipper troubles? Who actually wrote Bobby Jindal's script? Who's ready to drop the dime on Lindsay Graham's orientation?  Could these seemingly isolated episodes be somehow connected? who would have the motivation and skill to engineer these fiascos?
Sure, I know, you're thinking that the common thread here is "this is good news for John McCain." But that old geezer couldn't dream up this campaign of sabotage...and he's not gonna run again.
But think about this: who misled Letterman's writers about which Palin daughter was at Yankee Stadium? and who views vendettas as a way of life and a perk of public office? Yeah, baby...

Why do we not know the recent whereabouts of the First Dude? Now there is a real conspiracy candidate...someone who has enough free time to check out a copy of "Rabbit, Run" from the Anchorage Public Library and send it to a Southern governor...Wikipedia:

[John Updike's "Rabbit, Run"] depicts five months in the life of a 26-year-old former high school basketball player named Harry 'Rabbit' Angstrom, and his attempts to escape the constraints of his life. It spawned several sequels, including Rabbit Redux, Rabbit Is Rich and Rabbit At Rest, as well as a related 2001 novella, Rabbit Remembered.

(is it true that a snowmobile was sighted along the Appalachian Trail on Father's Day?)

Who will be next? Is Mitt Romney now using moose repellent? Will he be seduced into some colossal misstep at the No-tell Motel? How will that porn end up on his laptop? Will Mike Huckabee's gastric stapling surgery soon be mysteriously revealed?

When will the episode of "Elephant Burial Ground:The Survivor" air? Will the list of credits include "Produced and Directed by T. Palin?"

Or... alternatively....perhaps you think that these massive 'trainwrecks' have occurred because all the Republican "leaders" are morally, ethically, intellectually and behaviorally flawed, and those characteristics are eventually revealed in the normal course of events.

Fair enough. I hadn't thought of that.

ok...never mind.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
