It's simple, I want Beth Krom to be my Congresswoman and Melissa Fox to be my Assemblywoman. That's not too much to ask is it?
Both are smart and talented woman who are progressive Democrats and both would represent my interests in Sacramento and Washington. It's time issues like single payer, marriage equality and the environment took on more meaning than pushing watered down bills around, doing nothing but appeasing corporate interests and insulting true progressive values.
I don't want to go to Netroots Nation, I'm not worried about paying my mortgage as much as I want to bet people to donate to these amazing candidates. $5? $10? That's all I ask and that it be done before midnight tonight.
So here is more about Melissa fox...

"I know that there is a difficult road ahead -- and I also know that together we can bring real change and real solutions to California. The other side has an enormous advantage in money and entrenched politicians. But we have the most powerful force in America – people who are united and committed to change. It is time to fight for our schools, families, seniors, jobs and real economic growth. It is time for real change and real solutions for California."

And then there is Beth Krom...
Beth Krom's Biography
Beth Krom enjoys a reputation as a smart and accessible public official. First elected to the Irvine City Council in 2000, she was re-elected as the top vote-getter in 2002. In 2004, she won her first term as Mayor of Irvine and in 2006 she was re-elected with nearly 60% of the vote — the highest margin of victory for any Irvine Mayor running in a competitive race. Term limits prevented her from seeking a third term as Mayor, but in 2008 she did win a seat on the City Council, coming in first with an 8000 vote lead over her next closest competitor.
Residing in Irvine since 1985, Beth Krom has brought her experience as a teacher, a business owner, a community volunteer and a mother to her work on the Irvine City Council. A tenacious advocate, Beth Krom entered politics to stop the proposed El Toro Airport at the former El Toro Marine Base. That effort was successful, and today, the airport plan has been replaced with a plan to create the first Great Metropolitan Park of the 21st Century — the Orange County Great Park — on the property.
An advocate for balanced planning, Beth Krom has focused on ensuring a sustainable future for her community. Irvine has been recognized as one of America’s "greenest" cities, having implemented Orange County’s first "Greenbuilding Ordinance" during Beth Krom’s term as Mayor, as well as a number of other initiatives focused on recycling, long term energy reductions, transit access, water conservation and open space preservation.
Among the initiatives that Beth Krom has worked to advance are Irvine’s long-term housing strategy to ensure a full spectrum of housing opportunities in the City and the establishment of Irvine’s Community Land Trust to support the development of high quality affordable housing that will remain affordable in perpetuity.
Sustainability has been a consistent interest for Beth Krom, and not just in the area of environment. During her term as Mayor, city reserves were tripled to better prepare the City for an economic downturn. As a result, the City of Irvine has more than $30 million in "rainy day" reserves, and more than $70 million in an Asset Management Fund, a significant financial buffer which will provide a significant hedge in these uncertain times.
While Irvine enjoys a reputation as America’s most successful planned community, Beth Krom is always quick to point out that "Buildings don’t make communities, people make communities." Throughout her term of office she has made it a priority to work collaboratively with the business community, the education community and the non-profit community, leveraging opportunities to better serve the community.
An outgrowth of that effort is Irvine’s Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families which includes initiatives focused on health and wellness, childcare, enhanced senior services, at-risk youth, financial literacy and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
In addition to her responsibilities as a Mayor and City Councilmember, Beth Krom has served on almost every regional board, including SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments), The One Water One Watershed Steering Committee, The San Joaquin Marsh Board, the Orange County Great Park Corporation Board, the Transportation Corridor Agencies, The Orange County Sanitation District, the Orange County Fire Authority, the Laguna Canyon Foundation Board and, the Irvine Community Land Trust Board and the Irvine Educational Partnership Fund Advisory Board.
A former Junior Achievement boardmember, Beth Krom currently serves on the boards of the Discovery Science Center and Arts Oange County and is a member of the advisory board for the University of California, Irvine Program in Sustainability.
A strong communicator, Beth Krom has been an invited speaker at conferences on affordable housing, community land trusts and green-building. She has also given a Commencement Address at the University of California, Irvine.
Beth Krom has received many honors, including the Truman Award, the Solidarity Leadership Award, the Ruby Slipper Award, the Advocate of the Year Award and the Hadassah National Leadership Award.
As a former teacher and mother of three grown children, Beth Krom is a strong advocate for quality public education.
Raised outside Buffalo, NY, Beth Krom is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor of Science degree and Teaching credential in the field of Education of the Visually Impaired.
Beth Krom and her husband Solly have been married for 25 years and have three children, Abby, a graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Noah, a Senior at UC Santa Barbara and Hershel, a Sophomore at UC Santa Cruz.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
The 48th Congressional District is home to four coastal cities — Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel and Dana Point. Coastal preservation is not just about aesthetics and recreation, it is a bottom-line economic issue. And with most of our wetlands gone, ensuring that the Newport Back Bay is effectively managed and preserved is critical.
Our district also contains thousands of acres of preserved open space including Laguna Canyon, the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve, and Aliso and Woods Canyon Wilderness Reserve.
Preserving and protecting our natural resources is essential if we are to remain a beautiful, attractive, vibrant and economically prosperous region.
I was proud to be one of the first Mayors in America to sign on to the US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Addressing climate change and reducing our carbon footprint is the right thing to do. As the saying goes: "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors: we borrow it from our children."
From energy conservation and investments in alternative fuels to water conservation and resource management, we must continue to be innovative in the way we demonstrate our leadership and stewardship over our precious natural resources.
EALTH CARE
The 48th Congressional District places a high priority on health and wellness. Throughout our communities there are people of all ages, cultures and economic backgrounds who understand that unless we have "health security," we will never feel fully secure.
All Americans should have access to basic health resources at an affordable price. When people pay thousands of dollars per year in insurance premiums and still fear their medical access will be restricted, something is seriously wrong. Insurance companies have placed their profit motives over the health care needs of the citizens of this nation. A pre-existing condition should not bar a person from access to healthcare. The system is broken and needs to be reformed.
We can never be the great nation we aspire to be if we do not make the health and well-being of our citizens a national priority. Let’s better utilize the dollars currently deployed in our healthcare system to maximize investments by individuals and government.
To create a healthcare system that works, there must be greater accountability built into our national healthcare reforms — by individuals, physicians, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and insurers. The health of our nation should be our primary interest. We must advance public health and medical innovation as key national priorities.
Americans make personal choices every day that affect their health. Individually, we must employ preventative health efforts such as a healthy diet and exercise. But when injury or illness are an issue, no one should be denied access to healthcare or have to risk bankruptcy to get the healthcare they need.
I support a healthcare system that ensures health access for all.
