Sarah Palin has just released a 4th of July message and patriotically takes the opportunity to lash out at Wahington and the media.
"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country,"
Yes Governor Palin, if there's anything that ordinary Americans understand it's that quitting means COUNTRY. Or as you used to call it "Country First." Especially on Independence Day weekend. We are lucky our founding fathers weren't made of the same stuff.
The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the "politics of personal destruction".
Strangely, I consider myself an ordinary American and I have no idea what she is talking about. Which, after the rambling, incoherent, bird squawking, hot mess of a speech she gave yesterday that's no surprise. So after decrying the politics of personal destruction in the next sentence she gives the old backwards karate chop to President Obama.
And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make.
Usually, Governor Palin, when candidates leave office it's after they have won something else. Not 3 1/2 years before the next presidential election, and 2 years before your term expires.
Those who know me know this is the right decision and obvious decision at that, including Senator John McCain. I thank him for his kind, insightful comments.
Hmmmmmmm....John McCain's statement:
"I have the greatest respect and affection for Sarah, Todd, and their family. I was deeply honored to have her as my running mate and believe she will continue to play an important leadership role in the Republican Party and our nation,"
Nowhere in this statement does John McCain intimate that this was "right" or "obvious." Just the same generic, safe words he's said about Palin many times since the election. Something tells me John, Lindsay, and Lieberman, were not too happy about the latest drama queen development over yesterday's early bird special.
So here we are a full 24 hours after Palin's bizarre performance yesterday, and it seems she's going for The Full Nixon. I'm afraid that doesn't give Nixon enough credit. Nixon lost a presidential election, lost an election for governor, and disappeared. All the while quietly, strategically building a base of support, rehabilitating his image, and waiting for the right time to strike.
Palin is cutting and running at the first opportunity. She's deserting her state, her office, and her constituents. Nixon would have killed for her platform and stature during his dark days.
Happy 4th of July Governor Palin. I hope you are wrapped in the flag today and looking forward to seeing you in the lower 48.
