Othniel here. Welcome to WGLB. One type of WGLB diary which generated a lot of interest last week was the News Roundup sort.
So where do we go in search of our news? Gay Blogs, Kos, The Morning Paper, Greek Mythology?
Smoke Signals (don't laugh - as we emerge from the closet we sometimes forget the nuances of communication which served our community as survival skills in those days - or we forget them until we go into a gay lounge in Fort Worth at the wrong time, or find ourselves somehow in the military hiding from the world in order to serve.
Fort Worth. Even many of our allies cannot understand the significance of gay bars and why raids like that at the Rainbow Lounge hit at the heart of our community. Our Bars are not just a place to go drink - they fro many years were the one public place you could go an be yourself - an island, an oasis the size of a cocktail napkin. Sometimes churches or other groups have helped fill the role, but the gay bar like Stonewall Inn and Rainbow Lounge fill a significant communication and cultural void among our people. So where did you hear about the Raids. I was carrying papers in Memphis and oddly read of the Stonewall Raid when I got home and read my paper before school. The Fort Worth Raid jumped out of the Internet at me, and I forget from where.
But I know where I follow the the news of it - The Star Telegram, Dallas Voice, several blogs.
So when a story breaks where do you follow it? The Advocate (on-line), a site on our blog-roll?
Or, a confluence of timeless streams, following the Water-bearer Ganymede and his Eagle into the Sky, becoming Aquarius and lending your name to the Age of now, returning to Broadway, seizing the liquidity of communication and twittering like an eagle chick for all it is worth?
