Oh.No.
Our president is willing to state his view on an issue clearly and accept political compromise with the other side in order to get to an actual solution. That solution may be nearer to the center than Obama's stated view.
But we are taking a step towards real change.
From NYTimes article:
"I voted for the president, I canvassed for him, but we just haven’t seen leadership from him," said Ms. Miller, who rappelled down Mount Rushmore on Wednesday with colleagues to unfurl a banner protesting what they called President Obama’s acquiescence to the compromises. (They were arrested and charged with trespassing.)
We went for eight years under an administration that did. not. compromise.
fold...
If the democratic president did not compromise on any issue. He would polarize debate. He would stymie progress. We would not be able to have a civil political discourse and we would not be making progress from administration to administration.
For you political cycle folks. This is the pathway to a much longer term shift in american political thought towards the left. Polarizing for eight years is a good way to get the other party at the helm for the next eight.
On a note about the fact that they unfurled a sign over a rock face to make a political statement; I'm pysced that we have speech to do that. And I think we as grassroots movements should not give up pushing our ideals and our beliefs.
This is how we'll keep up the support to continue to make real. political. change.
We are passing a fucking climate bill for the first time that might actually become law. Can you imagine what kind of massive landslide shift that is from a few years ago? As someone who's been committed to affecting real societal change on climate change I feel like we've made an absolute breakthrough.
We need to continue to have a president that will hold views that we would want in our society, and realize we need to push our society step by step in the right direction. Its a slower and less sexy fight. But its the one that we really need to win.
Mr. Obama said, "We don’t want to make the best the enemy of the good."
