This is not a political diary. However, I have read a lot of stories recently about police officers overreacting, and this story made me smile and remember that most police officers are decent people. Other than that, this diary is irrelevant crap and can be safely skipped.
The Spitsbergen Post (Svalbardposten) reports today that a "Horny tourist slept in the cemetary"
Follow over the jump.
- "I'm horny", exclaimed the Dutch tourist as the police woke him up Sunday morning.
Residents in Longyearbyen had noticed the tourist in his thirties as he lay asleep between the graves. They called the Sysselmann (District Governor of Spitsbergen) who sent a man over to see if the man was alive. As the caller said, "we can't have people sleeping ABOVE ground there".
Police officer Petter Braaten woke him from a heavy sleep.
"He awoke after a while, fondled my leg and exclaimed «I'm horny». I was not very responsive towards his advances and eventually he became aware of where he was and that he might be better off back at the camping where he stayed." Braaten said.
Braaten considered giving the tourist a lift, but figured that a fitting punishment for the groping was that the man had to walk the three miles back to the camping, something the tourist accepted immediately.
The thing that surprised me most is that he actually fell asleep there - Spitsbergen is not exactly hot at any time of the year (around 10C/50F). He must have been frozen stiff.
