Recently, conservative blog Free Republic, has been under fire from the media for having a "caption contest" of a picture of 11 year old Malia Obama that was taken in Rome, Italy. It wasn't the contest that caused the stir however, but rather the blog comments made about the 11 year old girl that as MSNBC Anchor David Shuster put it were, "racist, vile, demeaning and sexist." These comments stayed up on the website for three days, before being taken down, only later to be put up again and taken down shortly after.
Christian Taylor, a spokesman for Free Republic, sat down with Shuster in an interview on Monday and called the situation "exaggerated". Taylor went on to say that the Daily Kos is, "not a reliable source of information" and lied about the circumstances of the comments made and how they were moderated. Further more, Free Republic owner, Jim Robinson, refuses to apologize for the insensitive and racist remarks made about 11 year old Malia, with the horrible justification that he didn't write the comments himself and he has no control over what comments are made on his site. Taylor did say however that Free Republic, "fell short of their standards", but then when on a rant as to how at least they (Republicans?) have standards and called out Democrats as having none. Very classy. Two high profile Republican sex scandals in the past month and he's talking about standards? Give me a break.
