Sorry if the title of my diary offends anybody, so i'll get right to the point. When you die there is no reason why you need to
take your organs to the grave. Organ donation- this could be a huge cost saver if implemented within the public option. People who sign up to donate their organs after death could recieve a yearly tax credit. Many more patients could be cured more directly with much less cost and wait time. Think about this, it has to be more cost effective to give someone a kidney transplant than to have that patient go to dialisys sessions every 2 or 3 days.
Imagine a day where if you are unfortunate enough to get a disease that is curable by an organ transplant, the more likely you will be cured. Sadly that is not the case today.
According to www.organdonor.gov as of 07/07/2009, 102,353 people in th U.S. are candidates on a waiting list, waiting and waiting and litterally dying for an organ match. The good news is that between Jan. and April of 2009 4,742 donors provided 9,346 transplant organs. In my home state of Texas, gone are the days when DPS would ask you if you wanted to be an organ donor when you went to get your drivers license renewed. Instead you have to apply with a state donor registry. Each state has its own donor registry and you can find that info at www.organdonor.govAfter submitting your information to the appropriate state registry online, you will recieve a form for you and some witnesses to sign. The form will also ask you which organs you wish to donate. It's pretty amazing how many organs can be harvested from one person. I went ahead and
checked all of the boxes. They can strip me for all they can get when i'm dead, i won't be needing them. Look, even if you plan on living forever, accidents happen, people die of stupid shit everyday. It could happen to you. In a way its kind of relaxing to know something positive might come of your death. Please recycle yourself when you die. Thanks for reading.
Update: some people seem to think i mean to implement a class based organ transplant procurement, not so, if everybody participated their wouldn't be a shortage of available organs. Some people think greedy is to harsh a word, well what would you call a situation were a person is in possession of an object they have no use for, has no legal monetary value, could save someones life or improve it dramatically but they refuse to give it up.
I'm sorry if you've never taken some time to think about organ donation, you can think about it now, what are waiting for, a ton of bricks to land on you, or die in a car wreck or get struck by lighting or or or...
Thanks to all who participate in my poll, i just wonder how many people read this diary and didn't vote
