Hi Gussack buddies!!!  Here's a diary from a fallen-down-backtracking-yes-I-smoked-again-returnee.

GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are quitting or thinking of quitting, please -- join us! You can also click the GUS tag to view all diary posts.

Yessirreee!  I fell down the Marlboro hole and smoked up a storm.  Do I feel bad?  Well, yes because my Quitclock is now completely screwed up.  I spent money to support Big Tobacco and Republicans.  My clothes smell again, and I've got that morning hack -- but what the hey -- time to return to the fold, sanity and repairing my lungs.

The worst thing anyone who is in the process of quitting is to beat oneself up about lapses.  It is another excuse to say, "hell, I can't do this -- I might as well just keep smoking."   Bzzzzzt:  wrong.  Like all addicts, we must continually re-evaluate our destructive behavior, analyse the triggers and give it another go.  I was 29 days smoke free even around smokers.  Then, a bit of stress and I bummed "just one,"  then another, and then sneaked out and bought a pack, and then another.

Well today is another day and I will make myself critically aware of the agony of withdrawal all over again.  Hopefully, the reminder of how difficult the first week is will be an impetus to not bum just that one cigarette again.

Now I have to find the little chipmunk that Emily brought in, dropped, chased, grabbed and lost somewhere -- that's a bit of a distraction.  Almost got it but the darn thing scampered away.

Happy 40th Anniversary Apollo 11 crew -- and a nice snippet of Walter Conkrite to boot.

To celebrate 40 years of pure beauty, I will leave you with Judy Collins' gorgeous My Father.

That song never fails to make me weep.  Thanks, Judy, for so much joy since the 60s.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
