Mary Bono Mack (R-CA45) likes to portray herself as a reasonable Republican. However, recently she did something no reasonable American would ever do--she friended birther-in-chief Orly Taitz on Facebook.
According to a post on her blog, Taitz says that Bono Mack was among the first people to friend her on her new Facebook page when it went live early this morning.
When I read this post, I thought, No. Freaking. Way. No sitting Repub would actually be this stupid. But I moseyed on over to Facebook myself and checked--sure enough, Bono Mack shows up among her friends. About the only halfway plausible explanation for such a stunt is that her hubby, Connie Mack IV, might be having a bigger influence on her politics than we first thought (her hubby is a member of the Republican Study Committee).
This would be mind-numbingly stupid by itself, but becomes even more so since Bono Mack will likely face a very credible Dem in 2010. Palm Springs mayor Steve Pougnet is running, and appears to have the backing of the DCCC. I've already alerted the DCCC via their Facebook page, and am probably going to email them later in the day. I'm also going to email Pougnet's campaign and maybe the California Democratic Party as well.
I didn't think the Repubs would still be in a giving mood after essentially giving away so many seats in the last two elections. But judging by this development, it looks like they are.
