Check out Keith's baseball blog to see how much fun he had in Cooperstown this past weekend! Some photos & stories of the weekend activities can also be found here. Speaking of Hall of Famers... hubba, hubba, HUBBA!
Speaking of fun, I had a BLAST at my reunion on Saturday. There were a couple of poignant moments that brought a few tears, but I generally had a great time. Hubby didn't quite know what to make of all the frivolity because he hated his years in high school. It was interesting to see that of the 64 classmates who had submitted their contact information for a directory passed out that night, 34 are still within a half hour drive from where we went to high school. Wow...
The poignant moments came when I was back at my high school earlier in the day. I hadn't been back there since I was in college, and at one point, I was just flooded with memories of the friend of mine that died during my senior year, and there came the tears. I also found out Saturday from someone who was in my "gang" during high school that my date for prom senior year is serving in Iraq. I actually kept in touch with him for quite awhile & knew he'd joined the National Guard to help pay for his college. Once he was done with school, we kind lost contact, but I had a feeling he'd eventually end up either there or Afghanistan. My fears were confirmed the other night. But, I have his contact information now, so I can start writing again, sending care packages, etc. Here's to him & everyone else serving so bravely far from home coming back safely to the states soonest!
We have a truly banner event to celebrate for "this day in history!" On this date in 1940, this guy was introduced to the world, and the world is a much better place for it!
YAHOO FOR BUGS BUNNY! :D
Let's Countdown.
And, tonight’s entry in the "pinch – hitting for Keith Olbermann sweepstakes" is Lawrence O’Donnell! Let’s hope this gig is a precursor to his own show to replace ‘ol what’s their names in the morning. ;D
#5 "Waseeya!" AKA "The Goodbye Girl" AKA "Palintology" - Can y’all just imagine how history could’ve possibly changed if Senator McCentury HAD chosen Tim Pawlenty instead of St. Sarah from Wasilla? I’d have much fewer dead brain cells & fewer shivers down the ‘ol spine. Gee, guess what? She still doesn’t know what the 1st Amendment is all about; she’s obviously not doing any of that elite studying up on issues & such to get ready for 2012. I also have a silly question – well, a few silly questions. If she hates the media so much, how come they get an invite every time she opens her pie – hole or cake – hole (if she prefers cake)?! She just loves, loves, LOVES that spotlight; she ain’t goin’ anywhere, and she & the former "First Family" of Alaska will be living in "the lower 48" by the end of the year. She had the audacity to mention Freedom of the Press?! How did her tongue not go screaming out of said pie or cake – hole because of the toxic environment?! She is ill; I am perfectly serious in that opinion. She needs either a lobotomy, electric shock treatment, or some drugs to change that ‘ol brain chemistry of her’s. There was a heckler in da’ house?! Kewl! I wish there was audio of the heckler; s(he) deserves a medal. Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover don’t talk so purty, but that just makes her folksy don’t cha’ know?! ;D I mentioned in a diary earlier today that I wasn’t a twinkle in my parents’ eyes for Nixon’s political shenanigans in 1960 & his comeback. I’m lucky (??) enough to get "that woman." So, do y’all think this sort of event is a generational thing? Here’s Shannyn Moore! She made a great point about St. Sarah pulling 1 last mavericky move in deciding to not quit after all. But, she would’ve had a much more difficult time staying in that spotlight had she still been Alaska’s Governor. People can keep filing ethics complaints against her for 2 more years?! HA!
#4 "Racial Politics" AKA "The Gates Controversy" - Wow! That was damn professional of Mr. O’Donnell to disclose his own run – in with Boston police. Professor Henry Gates & Sgt. James Crowley are getting beer at the White House courtesy of President Obama. Ya’ mean I gotta get arrested to get an invite to the White House?! What if I’m arrested for indecent exposure? Y’all think that’ll get me an invite? Some GOP Congress critters, specifically Rep. Thad McCotter, wants an official House resolution or something forcing President Obama to apologize for what he said in last week’s presser. I’m certainly glad he’s got nothing better to do because everything’s just hunky & dory with his district! The 911 call reporting the initial break – in did not mention race. Wow! Go Lawrence O’Donnell – GO! John Ridley’s not so sure what the "teachable moment" in all this is. I liked Mr. O’Donnell’s teachable moment! Mr. Ridley made a great point about the "prove it mentality!" Even if you’re a women or a minority or outside what’s considered to be the mainstream, it doesn’t matter what your creds are; you must prove you are capable of thinking like a white male.
** Mr. O’Donnell’s doing "Oddball!" HEY! He stole my "this day in history!" How did he get a peek at my diary draft?! Did Olbermann help him or something??!! ;D The annual Ernest Hemingway look – a – like contest took place down in Key West. I hope the participants don’t emulate ALL of Mr. Hemingway’s behaviors! The convicts in the Philippines have done yet another tribute to Michael Jackson. **
#3 "It’s DICK" AKA "What Constitution?" AKA "To Hell with the Law" - Gee, it must be great to have your own private Army! DICK wanted to send American troops to a Buffalo neighborhood to arrest potential AQ suspects. So, how soon will it be before DICK’s spawn is polluting the airwaves defending dear ‘ol dad on THAT score? A familiar face was asked to provide legal justification for this ilk – John Yoo. Son of a *&^%$#@! OK gang, get ready for a Technicolor revisit of your most recent meal:
...We further believe that the use of such military force generally is consistent with constitutional standards that it need not follow the exact procedures that govern law enforcement operations.
If that’s not enough to get him disbarred, I don’t know what is. Gee, how did I know that Professor Turley would be weighing in on this issue?! ;D Sadly & frightenly, I agree with Professor Turley; if DICK had won this argument, they would’ve gotten away with it, and I doubt the American people would’ve ever heard about it. Who would’ve thunk GWB would be a civil liberty hero? GWB had "limited understanding" about something?! Well, that’s sure as $hit news to me! Who needs understanding when you’ve got God & your gut!
#2 "Republicans on the Run" AKA "Birth of a Notion" - HA! Lawrence O’Donnell is cracking me up; he is ON FIRE tonight! GIVE THIS GUY HIS OWN DAMN SHOW ALREADY! GOP Congress critters are bravely straddling the fence in dealing with the birthers. So, are birthers pestering Congress critters on a daily basis in DC now?
#1 "Waseeya! Part Deux" AKA "Iqitarod" - Oh St. Sarah, I wish I could say we hardly knew ye, but we do all – too – well now. Once again, if y’all want another place to see this lovely retrospective, she made Countdown’s favorite people of 2008. How sick am I that the turkey video just NEVER gets old for me? ;D
