I am not much of a diary writer, but there is no current open thread where I can note this important story:

WASHINGTON – The remains of the first American lost in the Persian Gulf War have been found in Iraq, the military said Sunday, after struggling for nearly two decades with the question of whether he was dead or alive.
In short, he apparently died when his aircraft crashed, and was buried nearby shortly thereafter...
In other words, he was not captured, he was not then transported from one confinement location to another, and he did not leave cryptic messages at those locations. He was not alive to be used as a human bargaining chip.
I hope that this diary entry can be used as a starting point for comments by those that have followed this story more closely than I have over the years.
