What always get left out of discussions regarding hate crimes and discrimination is that against women.
This shooter was unlucky in love, and he took it out on women, specifically entering an all-woman gym class. Obviously he is dead so he cannot be charged, but this meets the definition of a hate crime.
Not just domestic violence(Estimates range from 960,000 incidents to 4 million women who are physically abused by their husbands or live-in partners each year),Estimates range from 960,000 incidents to 4 million women who are physically abused by their husbands or live-in partners each year
but rape as well (1 in 6 women will be a victim of sexual assault in their lifetime. Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted)1 in 6 women will be a victim of sexual assault in their lifetime. Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted

The victims of serial killers tend to be 50-75% women, usually specifically targeted.
In 1989, a male shooter murdered 14 women at the University of Montreal engineering school, shouting, "YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF FEMINISTS!". He specifically did not kill the men.
The straight news articles barely mention this aspect, even though all the victims were female. This man was a psychopath, but he was also a misogynist crime, violating the civil rights of people based on their gender, the very definition of a hate crime.
Speaking up about and confronting this is integral part of defending the the human rights of over 50% of the population. I hope at least this can raise awareness of this issue.
