I've been appalled by the bashing the NHS has been receiving from the wingnuts across the pond. As someone who lived in the US for many years and is now in the UK, I can vouch for the prompt, excellent care the NHS provides.
But don't take it from me. Currently trending on Twitter is the #welovethenhs hash tag, where real people tell you why they love their government-run health care service:

I feel so sorry for the misguided, medical debt-ridden Americans who simply don't know what they're missing.
I thought I'd add a few examples:
Every visit to a doctor, walk-in-clinic or emergency room - never handed a bill, never denied care #welovethenhs
#welovetheNHS because they saved the life of someone I love deeply, dearly and unconditionally!
#welovetheNHS they prescribe tots of whisky to the elderly to this day. Used to prescribe Christmas puddings and Guiness too. (lol! - GT)
Life expectancy is longer in the UK than the US. And it doesn't just SEEM longer, either. #welovetheNHS
