One of those internet polls popped up today asking if I was for or against Obama's Health Care Plan. And I Was about to click on For when I realized I am actually undecided. I am 100% against the screaming masses and their ignorant diatribes against reform seen disrupting town hall meetings. But I can't say I'm actually for "Obama's Plan."
As of this moment, I am concerned about it. I am concerned that he has apparently caved to big Pharma already by not seeking volume discounts. And I am concerned that anything short of a massive overhaul and single payer will be too little and might actually make things worse. It could be another Bankruptcy Reform bill that only made things better for the credit card companies and banks. Or it could be another Medicaid Prescription Drug Benefit that manages to enrich the drug makers and confuse the supposed beneficiaries. This could well be yet another piece of legislation that merely writes in to law the awful status quo.
I am also concerned that Michael Moore's Sicko isn't shooting up the rental charts over at NetFlix but apparently Glenn Beck's numbers are up.
I am looking forward to actually reading the proposal, hopefully before the vote for a change. And I may ultimately find myself siding with the people who are screaming today, not because of what the bill will do, but rather for what it fails to do.
And I think that's a problem. These people may find themselves thinking they were speaking for all of America when in fact there are probably more of us who are for reform of some sort, but not for the sort of reform that will actually make it to a vote.
