I don't post or comment much on here but I visit daily because this site has a vast amount of information. There are a lot of smart people on this site. Some fighting the system for years like OPOL. We have a long fight ahead of us just to reach some level of sanity.
It's time to bring into the healthcare conversation our priorities in spending. For many, the thought doesn't even cross their minds how much we spend on our military being what I feel are bullies in the playground.
I hear and see all the squawking over healthcare while no one mentions how much we spend on the wars. Why? Because war is common place
Yesterday I wrote a post about how the other side of the isle see's war as common place
In the comment section I commented on how many military bases we have around the world, 727. One person thought there was no way we have that many bases. They were right, I was wrong - we have more
These facilities include a total of 845,441 different buildings and equipments. The underlying land surface is of the order of 30 million acres. According to Gelman, who examined 2005 official Pentagon data, the US is thought to own a total of 737 bases in foreign lands. Adding to the bases inside U.S. territory, the total land area occupied by US military bases domestically within the US and internationally is of the order of 2,202,735 hectares, which makes the Pentagon one of the largest landowners worldwide
I've decided I will be bringing this into the conversation and I won't stop until others start talking about it.
We have enough money for our "safety" in our military but we have no money or regulations to have the right to healthcare. It doesn't matter how safe we are when we're all sick needing a doctor.
10 years ago my husband and I decided to drop our health insurance because our monthly payments were more than our mortgage payments. We were healthy people not having the need for a doctor. We were paying a lot more than we were receiving. It made financial sense to get rid of it. I view any kind of insurance as selling fear. Fear of the worst happening. Nothing bad at the time was happening for the money we were putting out. Now I can't afford the basic doctor visit. I feel like even if I did have insurance the state offers will not help in the system set up by the insurance companies. As soon as they find something wrong with you you have a preexisting illness which isn't covered.
It's crazy what we've allowed to happen with healthcare system over the years. We do have the power in this country to change things when we all stick together. We proved that in the last election. We all need to stick together in this issue to assure we come out better on the other side.
One way to make things better is to talk about how we spend our money in this country. We need healthcare not military bases.
I will be putting this out there daily until it becomes part of the conversation. WE NEED DOCTORS - NOT MILITARY BASES. So, see you tomorrow!
