I almost never watch "Morning Joe" anymore. This was not a concerted effort on my part. There was no moment when I decided to stop watching; I just sort of drifted away from as it became more and more unwatchable. I thought perhaps the Powers That Be at MSNBC might want to know why they lost this viewer.

Joe Scarborough is an insufferable boor. He is the party guest from hell that shows up, monopolizes the conversation, makes unfunny remarks about the hostess being secretly "hot" for him, criticizes the food before devouring half of it and then tries to excuse his bad behavior by claiming that he was "just kidding," and "why don't you have a sense of humor."  I think he reminds a lot of women of their first husband and just why divorce, however painful, is sometimes so worth it.

This boorish idiot, aided and abetted by the "living dead duo" of Mike Barnicle and Pat Buchanan, spend half the morning trying to turn poor Mika Brzezinski, the alleged co-host of the show, into a substitute and infantilized Mom figure for them.  Clueless Joe will react to some dumb news item by immediately pretending that Mika's reaction to it is "anti men."  He then spends gobs of time pretending to be wounded, wounded because Mom is trying to spank him over some imaginary censorship. How Mika manages to put up with this behavior is beyond me.  I would have told the jerk to go to hell and to call Senator Vitter's prostitute service pronto.  Clueless Joe obviously wants that "bad Mom and baby boy in diapers" scenario real bad.

The overwhelmingly male cast also has two people who probably have a defibrillator next to them at all times in order to get through the show. Zombies Barnicle and Buchanan serve the purpose of backing up Clueless Joe whenever he makes some idiotic remark so that Joe's rantings actually sound somewhat sane. Having two fossils on the set bleating out "brains, we need brains" every few minutes in response to something Clueless Joe says, however, is not good television. It's insulting, especially to your female viewers.

And Clueless please listen up: you're not cute and adorable when you insult a woman with your remarks and then pretend it's all okay when you put "babe" or "the diva" after her name. It's a belittling habit that tells the viewer that you don't actually care what a woman is saying, but it's okay because you secretly think they are "'hot'and really, that's all that matters isn't it." I understand this gives the fossilized remains of Barnicle and Buchanan a chance to attempt to smirk and giggle as if they were still alive, but it's extremely off putting to a lot of your female viewers.

I gradually stopped watching "Morning Joe" because the show has become a predictable mess.  Joe comes on, pretends he is the voice of middle America, immediately casts Mika as the House Liberal and then spends the rest of the show mocking her and engaging in "guy talk" with a mostly male panel of regulars who also spend considerable time mocking poor Mika. Come on, vary the format.  Or at least free Mika to give these morons a taste of their own medicine. She gets cast as Mom and most days never gets out of the 'apron and heels' thing long enough to say anything worth hearing.  Give her a break.

Also, lose the zombie twosome. I greatly fear a day will come when some piece of Barnicle or Buchanan that didn't get it's nightly formaldehyde bath might break off on national TV and that would be just too gross to handle. Clueless Joe would then blame Mika and her East Coast, feminist superpowers for what happened to the living dead duo.

Now why on earth would I want to watch that?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Haven't you figured out that "Poor Mika" is in on it?

When was the last time you saw "Poor Mika" oppose Clueless Joe on anything?

She and Clueless are clearly involved in more than just the show.

    Time for a cool change.

She obviously is cashing the checks so she is in on it.

She is there to gender-balance the show and, supposedly, keep Clueless honest.  Epic FAIL.

I can choose to watch or not watch this show. Her inability to challenge Joe and the inability of the producers to step in and fix this problem is part of why I no longer watch this show.  I only see it now for a few seconds, if I am channel-surfing in the morning.  I wanted The Powers That Be at MSNBC to know why.

  •  I gave up too! (8+ / 0-)

I cannot begin to tell you how insulted I became when I watched that show.  I was insulted for Mika, because I thought she was being treated badly by "Boorish" Joe and the others.  Then it became clear to me that she allows herself to be put in that position.  I don't think of her as "poor" Mika anymore.

Joe is a fool and a class clown who is not funny, not by any stretch of the imagination.  Buchanan is a racist pig whose days are long past.  He doesn't get it, and neither do the rest of that crew.

I do not watch, and I would recommend that everyone else stop watching too.

And it is as insulting to male viewers as it is to female viewers.  These are just my reasons why I found it unwatchable.  There are dozens of other reasons why this is a bad TV.

I kind of landed on this show today while channel-surfing.  Yup, same bad TV.  Nothing has changed.

All we hear about from Joe is how people called Bush a nazi over the Iraq war, so now anything goes as the GOP takes its revenge.  And let's face it, this is all about revenge for the GOP getting beaten.

But complaints about Bush was not a message being amplified by Fox News and Clear Channel.

And Joe goes back to what is a very authoritarian line of questioning the patriotism of anyone not "supporting the troops" by questioning a war that was clearly a mistake and a fraud.

And it is  authoritarian to go the route of seizing on anything as an excuse for massive reprisals, as Joe defend the media shitstorm being directed at Obama.

Conservatives love to point out totalitarian similarites of communism and fascism. And attacking critics of the war for lack of patriotism is a totalitarian tactic of both Communism and Fascism. Joe should be saying "Well sure some people called him a fascist, but they could have just as easily called him a communist or totalitarian."

Conservative like Joe love to portray America as a helpless giant, brought to its knees by the merest whiff of dissent, whether it's the Indigo Girls or Code Pink in their dowdy pants suits.

  •  Are you kidding Vana White of morning comedy (5+ / 0-)

loves it.Still whinning about losing her job @ CBS and how it was so terrible for her and not being able to find a job, lost lots of money etc.. How she loves Sarah Palin and all of us on the left treated her so bad. Look at Joes past behavior. Divorce, left Congress to avoid a scandle.  Like morning comedy @ MSNBC really cares about women viewers. Not so much. I like Dylan Ratigan's new show.

I have heard good things about it.

Mika had (past tense) some moments in the 2008 campaign.  None since. Now she is just the but of the on-set jokes. Sad.

Worse:  every woman on the show gets the same treatment except Doris Kearns Goodwin.  I have no idea why she is exempt.  Maybe she scares Clueless Joe. (I actually don't watch this show much anymore.  Is DK Goodwin still on a lot?)

Mika that tipped me over the edge to Mike and Mike in the Morning. I've always found her to be phony and hard to stomach, and when she spent two days talking about how "real" Americans believe in true American Sarah Palin and it's only we arrogant elites in the big cities (fake America) and media who pick on poor little female her, I left for good.

I used to wonder why somebody didn't do something, then I realized I am somebody.- unknown

the RFD channel didn't have much coverage but he'll get broader coverage only because Fox Business channel which he is  supposed to be on, is on more basic cable outlets.
Not that I'll watch him but that should hurt Morning Joe with the migration of some of his Republican viewers.

I never really liked Imus all that much. He also specializes in too much put-down humor for me.

Geez, you would think that someone would think up a show with more vibrant hosts who actually have something new and interesting to say to a wider audience.  Instead, same old, same old on every channel.

but he actually was good compared to MJ. I hated the sexist comments and the often occuring bad taste, but he actually did have excellent interviews with good people - where he actually let them finish paragraphs, while many "talking heads" cut them off as they try to complete sentences.

because she was smart, nice looking, and lent a nice balance.  As a female, I was happy to see a counter to Joe that appeared to be able to handle him... initially.

Then she took on that disgusting chastising mother character, and now she just looks like a stupid prop. Joe bashes her constantly, and instead of standing up for herself, she just sits and bats her eyes.

He exploits whatever he perceives to be her daddy issues whenever Zbignew comes on. I'm sure that is primarily to take the focus off the fact that Zbignew will very likely make Joe look like a total idiot at some point in the interview.

It's actually disgusting, and almost makes it feel like we're watching some sort of sick Mika/Joe affair going on, right on screen.

I have been sleeping in a lot lately, for my health, and I have been feeling better, both physically and mentally, from not having watched MJoke.

I haven't seen any recent appearances by Dr. Brzezinski, but he used to be a smart guest who would show up and say smart, interesting things about foreign affairs.

This would be followed by 20 minutes of Clueless blaming Mika for her Daddy being mean to him.

I think that's part of why I gradually stopped watching.

last October because he knew Obama/Biden was winning over McCain/Palin, but refused to admit that O/B had clearly demonstrated they were superior to M/P.  The polls showed the public was seriously thinking about voting for the O/B ticket.  That turned me off to his progam in a major way.  He engaged in partisan politics for politic's sake.  Fair and balanced he is not, so after watching him do this for a couple of mornings while I was getting ready for work, I decided to stop watching because I saw no reason to go to work angry and frustrated having to face 5 classes of high school students.  The job already offered so many daily challenges, and I didn't need to add his to my already full plate.  I have not watched Morning Joke since, and I don't miss watching it.

and quit because Cablevision took MSNBC off the stations that could be reached without a cable box - and I usually watched in the kitchen making and eating breakfast with my husband.

I thought then, and think now, from the few times I've seen it that it is probably the worst of all all the cable shows for us. It appears to be balanced by Mika, the daughter of a very prominent Democrat, but it isn't. On economic issues, she is either libertarian or a moderate old school Republican.

In addition, she is as you say, constantly belittled. There is no way that a conservative class of 1994 (contract for America) Congressman, a far right Nixon administration person, a mostly conservative journalist can be balanced by one person. Mika is really as good a representative of the democratic side as Ron Reagan jr would be of the Republican side. Both are children of prominent people, who they respect, but neither are clearly in agreement with core beliefs of their parent's party.

  •  Mika enabled the behavior... (0+ / 0-)

I think she is secretly in love with Joe.
